A group of representatives of the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association (SLESA) met the State Minister of Defence Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon and pinned a Poppy Flower on him today (12 Oct). Sri Lanka Ex- Servicemen’s Association annually organizes Poppy Day to commemorate the fallen war heroes. The funds collected will be spent on welfare projects for war veterans and their families.

As a Sri Lankan living in Britain ,I feel so sad by the ignorance of my countrymen to history. In the First World War the mainland Europe became a killing field where thousands of British soldiers were killed by the superior German Army. And the POPPY is the name of the flower that grew in that part of the battle field. So, every year Britain Commemorate the “death of their soldiers” in that battle by pinning poppy flowers in their clothes to be visible to others. Yes, we were a British colony but we are free now, so why this “ poppy” business going on in Sri Lanka even today. My comment may not still make Sri Lankans to change their thinking but if you are living in Britain as a foreigner then every world I say would make total sense to you.

The costs of including with the previous internal armed conflicts is where we are without having food to feed everyone in our nation. Please stop with the venerating of meaningless activity which is reminder of all the poor decisions of politicians past, and voters in earlier elections. If Gota was around sure these people try the poppy pin on him too. Expect the 'State Minister' is sooner or later going to use public purse and/or printed money somehow going to provide for extra benefit for these persons.

Are these educated people? Looks like dumbos. Don’t waste your time on poppys. It’s not for you. Go and produce food for the hungry. You will become a food hero.
