Sri Lanka has welcomed a total of 1,682 tourists for the month of January recording a 99.3 percent decrease in arrivals compared to the corresponding month in 2020.
In January 2020, the country saw 228, 434 tourists arrive, however, this was before the global pandemic struck.
Since the country opened doors to international travelers on 21 January, arrivals were seen slowly picking up with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority promoting the island nation as a safe destination to travel during the global pandemic.
According to Sri Lanka Tourism, the largest source markets for January was Ukraine, followed by the Belarus and China.
