Private sector allowed to import chemical fertilisers from today

Private sector stakeholders involved in agriculture will be allowed to import chemical fertilisers, weedicides, and pesticides from today.

To facilitate the move, Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage said the Gazette issued on 26 April, banning chemical fertiliser imports, has been revoked.

The minister stated that although the decision on banning imports of chemical fertilisers has been reversed, the government's green agri economic policy will remain unchanged.
