Veteran journalist Saroj Pathirana was appointed as an advisor to Verité Media in January 2022.
Until recently, Pathirana served as Deputy Head of BBC Sinhala Service, based in London. His newest initiative is a YouTube channel named ‘Sandeshaya by Saroj’.
Pathirana is an experienced broadcast and digital journalist with over 25 years’ experience with BBC Sinhala Service and BBC World Service. During his career, Pathirana has conducted several exclusive interviews with leading diplomats, past presidents of Sri Lanka and the Maldives and top sports personnel. His work has had a special emphasis in bringing marginalised voices into the mainstream conversation.
Verité Media is part of Verité Research, an interdisciplinary private think tank based in Colombo that provides strategic analysis for decision-making and policy development in Asia. In addition to its research and subscription-based products, Verité Media contributes to education towards responsible media practices and critical consumption of news.
Key public facing initiatives of Verité Media include the online platforms: Ethics Eye, Sri Lanka Media Ownership Monitor and FactCheck.lk. Key products include The Media Analysis, FrontPage and The Divide. Pathirana’s role as an advisor to Verité Media will include providing guidance on the analysis of media and the related policies and practices in Sri Lanka.
