What the hell?? Sunday, 22 July 2012 10:03 AM
Hey I was colombo district 184, z score of 1.8271. Now i'm 247, z score is 1.7116. What the hell is this? I'll file a case against this sorcery right tomorrow. We don't mind whether the big heads rob or what. But all our efforts are in vain and we won't stand that. How can I do exam in two weeks again? Let's see, cut my neck but i'll spend everything I have against this.

Hmm from what i hear lot of ranks have gone down. and some have even lost uni entrance which they had earlier. wonder what kind of relief the ministers are planing to give the affected students.

ranks are again erronous. 2 exams. But when making ranks they have again considered it as 1 exam.

Z-score has been calculated so that scores can be comparable as one exam ,so ranks too could be considered as one exam.

Hey, No it's not. Z sores calculated separately. In that case mean of these scores in new and old syllabus are quit different.
As a matter of fact new syllabus students have low mean and they get higher z scores than old students for same marks. That's why now there are some students who got 3A's in old syllabus but district rank 227 while new syllabus one got 220 for B's. Difficulty of those papers can't be that much different, can they?

I'm with you brother/sister. Same here. I got 2A's and 1B for biology old syllabus. Island rank was 704, but now I got 1072. That's not justice, right?

Clearly old and new syllabus results are two populations.court up held that argument. These populations of results are different in many ways .For old student 60 questions for 2 hours and new students 50 questions for 2 hours.34 questions in the Chemistry paper are almost same. But one party had lesser time. Then how can you rank these scores in one scale. Only solution is to go back to Court. There wil be thousands to support.

This is getting too complicated! when both groups are ranked together you should end up with a higher mark than when they are considered separately! There seems to be another screw up! Please don't play the fool with children's education. This exam is the most important exam in the life of a Sri Lankan.

Bro/sis old syllabus Physics paper was a cake walk while new syllabus students Physics paper was really difficult. A student who has got 85 for the old syllabus is equal to a student who has got 75 from the new syllabus but both have got A's. Naturally when z-scores are prepared for the 2 syllabi separately as they are two populations the scores become comparable.
