The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested the UPFA Western Provincial Councillor Thushara Perera in connection with the killing of a businessman in Anamaduwa two years ago.

He was arrested in Wattala last evening. Police spokesman Ajith Rohana said the suspect had been involved in a business with the victim where they exported ‘Kotalahimbotu,’ an indigenous drug used to cure diabetes.

Following a fall out with his business partner, the suspect had given a contract to the three Army deserters to take the businessman’s life.

However the case which was well known two years ago came to light after the CID took over the investigations. Following the killing, the police arrested three suspects. According to the police all of them were army deserters.

One of them who was in remand had confessed to the CID about the involvement of the politician who represented the Gampaha District. The suspect was to be produced before the Puttalam Magistrate. The CID was further investigating the incident.(Supun Dias)

The verdict will indicate if we are finally taking the right path to a bright future where law and order is concerned. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
