The UNP today said it was disappointed and displeased over the statement made by UN Human Right High Commissioner on the human rights situation in Sri Lanka, but assured it would not use the statement for political advantage.

“We have no reason to be happy or to gain political advantage from the statement made by UNHRC Chief Navanethem Pillay after her week-long visit to the country. We are disappointed and sad because the statement is a black mark against our country. We are worried about what’s in store for Sri Lanka in the future,” UNP MP Karu Jayasuriya told a news conference.

He said it was the Government which provided the basis for Ms. Pillay to make a statement which was so critical of Sri Lanka. (LSP)

Well, the truth is somehow bitter. But this is a case of "Illang Parippu kewa"

When there is threat to the country everybody should forget about the political differences and work in unity. Its a good sign from the main opposition party about whats in store for the country in the future.Lets all hope they jointly work out a strategy to face out any problems in the future. Work together like gentlemen and govt should think of getting rid of jokers who make proposal to VIPs and taking important affairs very lightly.

Karu Jayaduriya is trying to close the stable gates after the horses have escaped. It was He and the UNP that told Navi Pillay that Democracy is being eroded in Sri Lanka, when they know very well that the Democracy in Sri Lanka is a vibrant force. It is the UNP that is discreditng the country for their own political benefits.. They should be ashamed of it. The UNP voters should take note of this and think twice before voting for a UNP candidate in any future.election.

We want out motherland taken care of by every one without political, religious or communal distinctions

Why not tell this to the person who commented on war in parliament which ultimately claimed thousands of votes to UNP.

    BuffaloaCitizen Wednesday, 04 September 2013 03:20 PM

To work like gentlemen is the biggest failure of this present regime starting from failing to be accountable for the war crimes accusations to white vans and other heinous crimes.

Whatever said and done on the subject. Welcome back Mr. Karu Jayasuriya to the fold of a spokesperson of the UNP
