The main opposition United National Party (UNP) today charged that last weekend’s Colombo night races were conducted in an illegal manner and therefore the UNP would lodge a complaint with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

“The tickets issued for the event were illegal because the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) had not given its approval to sell such tickets. The Western Provincial Council Chief Minister had exempted the organisers of the night races from paying entertainment taxes to the CMC. This was not a charitable event and as such did not qualify for tax relief. This is why we decided to complain to the Bribery Commission,” UNP Western Provincial Councillor Mujibur Rahman said. Well done the UNP for still choosing the democratic path! But who this Bribery Commission works for is anybody's guess.

    Asaranakolla Tuesday, 17 December 2013 08:16 AM

Well said.. I am waiting what will happen next after this complain. And also check how this so called organizers done previous also should consider.

Suq Madique Tuesday, 17 December 2013 08:24 AM

Hope the UNP sustains the pressure and not give up after the initial complaint as they usually do.

    Dharme Tuesday, 17 December 2013 08:55 AM

Complaint to whom. Do you think you will receive the justice .Be practical my dear.Do not wast time. This is why you are losing election after election.

    Saman Tuesday, 17 December 2013 09:29 AM

Quote "UNP would lodge a complaint" ! and lodged a complain , there is a vast difference.

    Labby Tuesday, 17 December 2013 10:15 AM

Dharme, what you imply is that the UNP loses elections because they do the right thing. So now it is clear that it is fools like you who vote against them.

Razmi -from Saudi Tuesday, 17 December 2013 10:22 AM

I agree on this complaint. But first it should go to your UNP mayor Muzammil. Let him work, than sitting as a puppet. Then take these to street & win the case

    unchikuni Tuesday, 17 December 2013 10:38 AM

What was that bootlcker city father doing?

    tony Tuesday, 17 December 2013 12:15 PM

GOOD START. HOPE THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF CHALLENGING SO MANY ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES TO SEEK JUSTICE. IF THE BRIBERY COMMISSIONER DOES NOT ACT INDEPENDENTLY CHARGE HIM IN COURTS FOR CORRUPTION

Andrew Pitugala Tuesday, 17 December 2013 01:53 PM

Jollygood !! If the Bribery Commissioner takes up the case he will be picked up by the "White Van".

    lal Tuesday, 17 December 2013 02:03 PM

Having viewed the clip - it is not difficult to understand why the UNP is dead in the water.

    punchinilame Tuesday, 17 December 2013 04:24 PM

Should not this type of act be taken up as a Public Interest
case, to disclose what the First Family is upto against
    Institute regulations.
