The United National Party (UNP) Leadership Council would continue its activities towards strengthening the party without waiting for the arrival of Parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa to the Leadership Council, its member and spokesman Kabir Hashim said.

“Mr. Premadasa keeps refusing to join the party’s Leadership Council and he was also unable to mention a reason for the refusal. Although we are trying to get him onboard we cannot postpone the duties and responsibilities. Therefore, we will continue Leadership Council duties,” he told a news conference today.

Premadasa Snr has done this catastrophe to the party by getting rid of Lalith / Gamini and 1 million votes. Do not let the Jnr repeat the same.

    ManThillekerathne Friday, 20 December 2013 04:52 AM

Very fruitful comment. But he must be elected without restrictions and road blocks that is famous of the UNP.

    Dharme Thursday, 19 December 2013 08:27 AM

Let him first contest SPC of WPC and show he is worth. Like Chandrika, he can get some experience also if he wins, before thinking of leading the whole country.

    Dharme Thursday, 19 December 2013 08:20 AM

Better go without him. If he gets in he will see that this council will have enough problems that it can not proceed. SIRASA is there to support him to ruin the UNP. So take care. May be UNP is now better off without him.

    Devaka Thursday, 19 December 2013 07:06 AM

Very well said Haffie. Absolutely right.

    Janaka Thursday, 19 December 2013 07:00 AM

People who comment DONT know the facts. Ranil is NOT the UNP leader now. He's the opposition leader.

Head of the council, Karu is the UNP leader now. All party powers are given to his council now. Just leave Ranil alone now and help the council win and chase MR and co.

Nilam from London Thursday, 19 December 2013 06:32 AM

if you all can take the message to the grassroot level you all can make it next time.no need to worry about anyone you all need people to go and vote.

Samitha Silva Thursday, 19 December 2013 05:46 AM

Why U.N.P worried about Sajith. Be firm and show result without Wasteing time . Think about the supporters and present country situation.

    Yehiya Thursday, 19 December 2013 02:17 AM

Why waiting so much for sajith. JR won without senanayake family.

    M Kuruparan Wednesday, 18 December 2013 04:50 PM

Stupid fools. As if there is UNITY in the party and Sajith is trying to split the party. Can you just count how many voters have deserted the party ? IF . . . . Ranil resigns the post and some one like Sajith comes to power only UNP can hope to win the next election. Otherwise mark my word , if this situ continues, surely UNP will loose the next election.
Sajith is not a GOOD politician, BUT he can lead the party to victory. He is in one way like JHU, but he is not showing that. He will NOT do any good to Tamils.

    Mark Wednesday, 18 December 2013 03:49 PM

Most of the members of Leadership council are Ranil's people. But Sajith is the wish of most UNP people. Have to think about the party first & support to win the party. Otherwise UNP voters will vote to Sarath Fonseka since he is the next famous person of most.

    kira Wednesday, 18 December 2013 01:52 PM

Only way UNP can get few million extra votes is by chasing Ranil out to a back seat.Mangala , Ravi and Tissa are the next to send to back seats. Put Sajith, Rosy,Sujeewa,Bakeer and also get Dayasiri as a deputy leader.UNP can win gloriously.People are fed-up with this govt.As long as Ranil,Mangala,Ravi abd Tissa are in the frontline UNP will never win an election.

    Abdul Wednesday, 18 December 2013 01:20 PM

    well said

    M Kuruparan Wednesday, 18 December 2013 12:32 PM

    YES . . .YOU don't need another Premadasa. But YOU need RANIL & MR &Co ONLY. . . .
You fools. . . Ordinary people and village people will know what Premadasa did to ordinary people. He didn't rob the country. He was always thinking about the ordinary people of this country.
What happened to UNP under Qualified Leader ?
    THINK . . .THINK . . . THINK

    Mason Wednesday, 18 December 2013 12:31 PM

Sajith Premadasa is a bad egg in the party. His activities are more in line with bringing disunity in the party. The party would do better without him.

    ManThillekerathne Wednesday, 18 December 2013 09:00 AM

If Sajith is useless to listen to his version, why should the UNP worry ? Get at least 29% next time.

    Abdul Wednesday, 18 December 2013 11:40 AM

First name UNP's next president candidate, make him the leader (only leader- no council) of the party and then only you can strengthen the party.

    Haffie Wednesday, 18 December 2013 11:39 AM

You are all just puppets of Ranil. He is just hiding behind the LC after the historic defeats at Wayamba and Central Province Elections. What Sajith and majority of the UNP'ers want is to get rid of Ranil and his cohorts from leadership positions. It's as simple as that. Knowing this pretty well, you all behave as if everything is fine with the composition of the LC and and its powers.
First, we have to understand that the formation of the LC was necessitated because of continuous defeats under the leadership of Ranil. So, what is the meaning of forming a council filled with his cohorts and having them under his control? , while the spineless WC is a bunch of people handpicked by him which continues to wield more power than the LC.
The only outcome of the LC is to share the blame along with Ranil after the impending electoral defeats for WP and SP.

    Fayad Wednesday, 18 December 2013 11:37 AM

Do not wait for anybody from 47 million votes UNP is down to 26 Million continue the same policy for couples of years and see the result.

    what2do Wednesday, 18 December 2013 11:09 AM

Well said SAM. Sri Lanka does not need another Premadasa who will take us back to his father's era along with the Cooray's and group of Sajith stooges. Besides, what is his qualification to lead the Party or the Country??

    unchikuni Wednesday, 18 December 2013 10:58 AM

Soon the WP and SP PCs will be devolved.the next election will be a humiliation defeat. What is needed is a strong leader and not a council.

Honda Banda Wednesday, 18 December 2013 10:30 AM

Is Sajith trying to achieve greatness by himself ?

Calistus Jayatilleke Wednesday, 18 December 2013 10:21 AM

Yes, right. Let the Leadership Council go ahead with what needs to be done to achieve victory rather than wait for someone who is already too big for his shoes. Let no one think that they have any birth right to leadership just because he happens to be the son of a father who was an ex-President.

    doctorese Wednesday, 18 December 2013 10:05 AM

Forget him as he has lost all the popularity he had (not a brain kid either) people now need a change and a good UNP government to restore law and order....
Government is using him to split the unity of opposition !

Randeniya Banda Wednesday, 18 December 2013 10:00 AM

Kabir, you are neither a leader nor a credible person. Do not polarize the party further.

Real Peace Wednesday, 18 December 2013 09:24 AM

Only a revitalised UNP can save this country from anarchy and humiliation in 2014. UNP LC must act fast to strengthen the party with or without SP.

    Sam Wednesday, 18 December 2013 09:11 AM

WE stil rember the darkest era under his father. let son fly a kite. People want a change,Not another Premadasa.

Nilam from London Wednesday, 18 December 2013 09:10 AM

moving forward with LC and party activities very vital at this stage.as a main opposition LC should take the message to grassroot level. You all have good team and can make it next time I guess for sure and save our motherland.
    Good Luck

    Devaka Wednesday, 18 December 2013 09:07 AM

Never mind Sajith's arrival. What about Ranil's departure?

Be Fair Wednesday, 18 December 2013 09:03 AM

Couldn't disagree with you sir, given that over 2,700,000 also haven't waited and has deserted the UNP.................
