Unknown explosion kills student

A 15 year old boy was killed early this morning in the Nainathivu islands, Jaffna, following an explosion from an unidentified explosive the Kayts Police said. The Police are conducting further investigations to ascertain the explosive that caused the death.

My dear Friend, Nainatheevu never been a war area. Through out the war time this area controlled by the Srilanka Navy. Here nothing related to de mining.

Do u knw where is Nainativu located and the history of who controlled the area for past 22 years? No LTTEers were there after 1990 and the entire island was under the ful control of SL military.. Then y do u need to de-mine the area ? 22 years r not enough to de-mine an area ? LoL.. Plz B4 Talking just try to have a bit of ground knowlege

How it is possible,since it was never under LTTE control.Only EPDP presence rather than security forces.

I agree with Nodrog. His comment is more general related to the subject. This incident could have been a device laid by the Navy to defend from infiltrators and possible attackers. It comes back to the same point.....de-mining! However, the world community wants to see more such incidents in the future, thats for sure. It can be another excuse for them to intervene and send their own de-miners to clear these areas. Our people in the north know the exact difficulties and they are prepared to wait till the areas are properly cleared before moving into their original areas.
My deepest sympathies to the family of the victim. Very sad to hear these stories.

Colombo was not LTTE held areas, but how many bombs were planted during that era. Only LTTE knows the locations where they have hidden explosives. Still people in those areas vulnerable to such accidents.

So are you 100% sure that none of the LTTEers smuggled any weapons or explosives through Nainatheevu? May be they didn't need to hide any either... just for a rainy day... Just count the number of bombs that went off in the 'non LTTE held' area...
