The Tamil National Alliance (TNA), which was widely seen as an LTTE proxy today welcomed the findings of the Experts’ Panel appointed by United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to probe accountability issues relating to alleged war crimes in last stages of the war.

“We welcome the panel’s findings that credible allegations, which if proved, would indicate that serious violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law were committed by the Sri Lankan government and the LTTE. These will amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. Indeed, the conduct of the war represented a grave assault on the entire regime of international law designed to protect individual dignity during war and peace,” TNA parliamentary group leader R. Sambanthan.

“We urge the Sri Lankan government not to miss this opportunity and to constructively engage in a process which will result in all the Peoples of Sri Lanka being the beneficiaries of genuine democracy, equality and Justice.
