Tensions after bus accident

Drivers engaged in the 180 route used to keep their bus at each holt 3-4 minutes awaiting for passengers not at the bus holt. When they see another bus behind, they start driving in high speed. If they saw another bus in front again increase their speed to overtake that bus to pick up passenger in the next holt. They do not care about the safty of passenger in the bus or the other people and vehicles in Kandy Colombo road. Police and other transport authority should observe those driver's actions and educate them to provide safe and quick service.

Speed limit for busses is never enforced by the Police. They allways man the laser gun at cars vans and other smaller vehicles. Have you ever seen busses been cheked for high speed. Never. Speed limit for busses within towns is 30 km per hour, outside 55km per hour. If this is strictly enforced there will not be wanton driving by daredevill bus drivers. I am yet to come across a court case involving a bus for speeding. Even to the naked eye it appears that allmost all the busses exceed these speed limits.

I've been to many parts of nothern Europe. It's amazing to see the decipline of drivers. When a pedestrian stands on a crosing,, all vehicles stops immediatly. Speed or the distance is not a factor to a driver,, they know they have to stop. But in SL no one cares to stop and drivers always expect the person to cross after his vehicle passes!!

The nations transport service is crying out for proper regulations. Every election time we are promised this but it is forgotten afterwards. This free for all between the private buses makes them take unnecessary risks to be first at the stand to collect passengers.

This is our transport service. Every year during december the minister speaks out about up grading of the service. The private bus owners promise the commuters a better service . But they keep on harrasing everyone on the roads. Pedestraints, motorists,etc.

Arrogance is the word of the day and everyday for a lot of drivers, bus drivers in particular. Even when a pedestrian makes certain to try to use the marked crossing, how many vehicles take notice and actually stop? Most of the time the pedestrian has to wait till there is a measure of safety before trying to cross the street, often holding up a hand to say, Stop!

Mostly these kind of accidents are caused by Private Bus drivers and tipper drivers, and very rarely by the other private vehicle drivers and CTB drivers. Then it is clear that the nature of business on road is the main cause for these accidents.

We don't know who is at fault. Setting fire to a bus is not going to solve anything.It is an another act of violance.People must come to their sences and avoid these types of acts.Destroying a bus means destroying the country's property.Educate the public.

Educate the drivers not on safe driving techniques but on attitudes. Most of them know how to drive but are blinded by an attitude of arrogance.

I repeat, human life is cheap in Sri Lanka. No mother with a 4 year old would rush in front of a speeding vehicle. Years of violence and greed has done this to us.

This is mainly due to over speeding to catch up the lost or wasted time by the bus crew. There is no proper system to check the running time or the schedules. Bus travelers are still experiencing the unnecessary mess created by the bus crew even after loading the bus to capacity. If someone checks these details will the untold stories hidden behind these crew be told.

I understand that it could be a driver's fault. But we are having very Serious safety issues in our country.
We should introduce a national safety policy and need to take measure in all the places including work places.

First of all those poor fellows should not have crossed the road if the place is not safe. We need to take measures and introduce new pedestrian laws as well.

Any loss of life is a tragedy. My sympathies to the family. But let us not always blame the driver. Some people simply do not have the patience to cross the road when it is safe or use poor judgement.
