The main opposition the UNP has raised suspicion over the government decision to seek the resignation of heads of all state institutions, saying it could be an attempt to persecute supporters of former Presidential candidate General Sarath Fonseka.

UNP MP Ravi Karunanayaka told Daily Mirror Online that even after the just concluded Presidential Elections there is a lack of consistency in the governing process. “We do not accept the whole election process so obviously what happens after the elections is not acceptable too. This is a political move to persecute supporters of the opposition,” Mr. Karunanayaka said.

Secretary to the President, Lalith Weeratunga said yesterday that heads of all state institutions have been instructed to tender their resignations. Mr. Weeratunga claimed that the move is aimed at "reconfiguring" all the state institutions.

He added that calling for the resignation was a normal procedure and it was done by the government to reconfigure the state institutions.

One would be crazy to retain heads, not loyal to the government! Ravi, if you are ever elected to government, would you have SLFP supporters as heads?

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 03:12 PM

People like RK, Mangala, CKB are responsible for the heavy defeat of SF.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 03:55 PM

Mr. Ravi, Pls stop your unnecessary comments, Start youer work as true political leaders without going behind military leader. He was refused by the people.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 04:48 PM

    well said!

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 04:50 PM

oh, so asking to do something worthwhile is also a bad comment? :D

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 05:17 PM

    Lol. What a joke

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 07:14 PM

Another 'cock & bull' comment by Ravi!

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 07:26 PM

    Looks like another 'gilmart'.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 07:49 PM

    Friday, 05 February 2010 05:13 AM

Ravi K is a frog in the well. When Obama was elected , he got his own men in key positions. Well President has every right to get rid of inefficient saboteurs who are heading the State corporations.

All I can say is "ha ha haaaa" Go on dreaming mohamed.

    Friday, 05 February 2010 05:19 AM

Hello madawachci shut your mouth and go home

    Friday, 05 February 2010 06:27 AM

Yeah SF is now trying to go hitec for the general elections, sheer propaganda.

    Friday, 05 February 2010 07:15 AM

mr Alimankada does not kow what he should talk and he should not. This fellow is supporting MR through underhand agreement. Ranil thinks he is supporting him?

    Friday, 05 February 2010 07:27 AM

Mr Pamankada via Alimankada, please dont try to insult the peoples knowledge. THese are political appoinments and government must sack them if they have supported to SF. THey are not public servants. Even if you do not have anyknowledge at least you should know this as you also worked as a Minister. Dont try to give wrong infomation to people. Becouse there are peopel who still belive you. Dont mislead them.

    Friday, 05 February 2010 08:21 AM

Keep doing that Mr. Kilinochchige Madawachchi, what else you can do apart from suspecting, just like you supect the Kilinochchi and Madawachchi

    Friday, 05 February 2010 10:10 AM

It is a grey area: we can't jump into quick fix solutions. They submit resignations but the hon. former minister is saying that they are 'forced' to resign, if the concerned people won't say how they are forced what is there to complain? If the officials consider that this is victimization then they can go to courts but that is too a remote possibility as they can't argue on the govt's discretion to choose one official over other if it finds suitable. He pasted posters after UNP victory in 2002 to degrade JVP: 'nakadi pusi'- the same applicable to him now in fairness.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 12:07 PM

This is how the former Communist countries used to intimidate people. This is more like "fingering" rather than "configuring"

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 11:33 AM

What about asking the Head of State to resign and reconfigure the whole state machinery best thing that could happen to our beautiful country.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 11:37 AM

Mr.Medwachi-Kilinochchi, just hampering every single move of the government is not what the people expect from the opposition - pls take a note .....................

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 11:48 AM

    Finally you got common sense.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 11:59 AM

This is not new, it always happens after an election irrespective of the the party which had won. Also, it happens in all countries around the world which practice democracy.

This is unlike the undated and signed resignation letters of MP's that were kept by Ranil's unlce JR. UNP very conveniently forgets these things.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 12:00 PM

OH my God this man is back again his with usual " high profile"
Pamankada talk !! As long as people like him stay in UNP, it will never win the confifidence of ordinary people. He is one of the day day dreamers in the Colombian circle who vomits cocktail induced political theories time to time.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 12:00 PM

    Just the beginning ?

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 12:00 PM

Everything in our paradise isle is politics dear! That is why we need the 17th Amendment+ pronto!!!

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 12:05 PM

mr, madawachci and kilinochchi mind your own business

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 11:29 AM

Dear Ravi, government has called for the resignation of political appointees. Why should they keep supporters of SF, if there are any, in key positions of the MR government? If government is harassing public servents for supporting SF, it's wrong. Being a former minister, you should understand the difference between public servants & political appointees.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 12:52 PM

Yes you are correct Mr. Karunanayaka. This is a political move to persecute supporters of the opposition. This is what the current regime is capable. They have hammered the first set of supporters on consipiracy to kill president. Now the 2nd round will be punished by not reappointing. I have not seen any better dirty politics than this. Very sad.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 01:23 PM

come on! this election stuff is outdated now! All these crybabies are acting as if SL has nothing else to do. just stop whining and do something worthwhile for the country!

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 01:33 PM

Hold your strings and support SF Ravi, we are not very far to clean up the place! The problem here is that : MR's attempting to run faster than the wind that buffets him!!!

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 02:02 PM

everyone quiet! The cry babies are talking!

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 02:11 PM

seems you wanted all uncapable people still to be the heads at institutions.

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 02:49 PM

    god bless our country

    Thursday, 04 February 2010 03:00 PM

President is keeping his Election pledge that he will put a fullstop to CORRUPTION.
