The director of the Medical Research Institute said that arrangements had been made to send blood samples of the suspected female Ebola victim to a laboratory in Pune, India.

The woman who went to India on pilgrimage had died soon after her return.

The blood samples are to be sent on the advice of WHO as there are no facilities here to test for Ebola virus, the MRI director said.

He said the results of the test would be reported to him within 48 hours.

The deceased was the mother of three children and a resident of Damunumeya, Hanguranketha. Her name was Swarnathilaka. (Ranjan Kasthuri)
