Security back up meets with accident

Two STF personnel were injured when a jeep carrying STF personnel providing security to Deputy Minister of Resettlement Vinayagamoorthy Muralidharan met with an accident early morning today near the Arch Culvert of Welikanda.

The Injured STF personnel were admitted to the Polonnaruwa General Hospital. Police said that a herd of cattle had been crossing the road and the driver of the jeep had attempted to avoid hitting the cattle and this had caused the accident. The hospital authorities stated that the injured are out of danger.

The HQI of Polonnaruwa IP Dumindu Senanyake is directing further investigations, handled by the traffic unit of Polonnaruwa Police and a team of police officials. (K. G. Karunaratne )
