A Foreign employment sub agent who allegedly raped under aged girls after bringing them to Colombo promising Middle East jobs was remanded until October 7 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate.

The suspect Mohamed Hussain Mohamed Suhoor was arrested by the CID following a complaint made by a woman who was allegedly raped by the suspect promising a foreign job.

The woman from Trincomalee had complained to the CID recently that when she was under the age of 18 whilst working in a garment factory in Trincomalee she was introduced to Mohamed Hussain Mohamed Suhoor by one  Riyas who befriended her.

Later Suhoor had visited the house of the woman and told her mother that he could find her a Middle East job. When her mother told Suhoor that her daughter was a minor and cannot get a passport the suspect had insisted that he could forge a birth certificate to get her a passport. The young girl was then sent to Colombo by her mother to get the foreign job.

In Colombo the suspect had taken her to an isolated house where she had been allegedly raped after making her  unconscious by holding a handkerchief on her face.

The woman had told the CID that thereafter the suspect brought her to Colombo on several occasions  to several employment agencies  to find  the job. Subsequently the woman had realised that she was pregnant and had told it to her mother.

When the suspect was questioned by the girl’s mother about it the suspect had suggested an abortion and had demanded Rs.100,000. Since the girl’s mother could not afford to spend that much of money she had decided to adopt the child.

The suspect enraged by that had threatened to black mail the victim by demanding Rs.100,000 threatening to reveal about the forged birth certificate to  the police.

The CID submitted that they had already recorded the statements of the staff of the employment agencies and from several other witnesses.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Rashmi Singappuli remanded the suspect until October 7 and ordered the Prison Superintendent to make arrangements to remove the suspect from remand prison. (T. Farook Thajudeen)
