The UNP rebels who crossed over to the government yesterday warned that they will resort to legal action in the event they are removed from the UNP membership by the party leadership.

UNP MP Earl Gunasekera, speaking to Daily Mirror online said that the party had no right to cancel their membership when the membership of several other UNP members who had crossed over to the government still remains.

Gunasekera challenged the UNP Leadership to name one member whose membership has been cancelled on the basis that he crossed over to the government adding that if such a move is taken then even the current UNP Deputy Leader should lose his membership for joining the government a few years back.

While echoing the same sentiments, UNP MP Manusha Nanayakara warned that they will not hesitate to file legal action against the UNP if their membership is cancelled. He also claimed that more UNP members are expected to join the government.

UNP MPs Upeksha Swarnamali, Earl Gunasekara, Abdul Cader, N. Wijesingha, Lakshman Seneviratne and Manusha Nanayakkara crossed over to the government yesterday after support the 18th Amendment.

The UNP later said the six members who crossed over will be suspended from the party and a disciplinary inquiry will be launched over their actions. (Daily Mirror online)

These turn coats want to have the cake and eat it too. Did they think that the voter whom they betrayed will still want to have them as UNP members? Kalakanni!

    Helasebala Thursday, 09 September 2010 07:07 AM

It is the voters who should take them to the courts..for not asking them before crossing over

    shyama b Thursday, 09 September 2010 07:08 AM

Because they won't be MPs anymore if they are expelled from the UNP.

    Taj Thursday, 09 September 2010 07:14 AM

Kick them out of the party, and they won't be MPs anymore after kicking them out - do it right now???

    wickramasuriya Thursday, 09 September 2010 09:54 AM

Why can not UNP change their constitution, at least now to sack the future traitors.

    HH Thursday, 09 September 2010 04:43 AM

We definitely need to screen our politicians

    dilmi Thursday, 09 September 2010 04:50 AM

What this UNP is doing without kick them out from the party?

ara soysa Thursday, 09 September 2010 04:55 AM

This is a good opportunity to clear all gabage for UNP. Dump all these garbage and revitalise the party with young energy who want to make this country a delveoped nation.

    sanus Thursday, 09 September 2010 04:59 AM

They are a selfish lot o leave the UNP and join the Govt. But there seem to be no hope or future with the present UNP.

    Bala Thursday, 09 September 2010 05:10 AM

Having done the dirty by the voters and the Party, they will not stop at anything to eat the cake and have it too. Disgusting breed - these crossover politicos. Shameless but reflexion of the current society.

    athula Thursday, 09 September 2010 05:11 AM

    Lisa Thursday, 09 September 2010 05:21 AM

a 19th amendment should be brought forward for these kind of frogs to be answerable to the the voters who brought them into power.

politician should mention clearly if they are multi party politicians or dedicated single party politician when contesting next election without fooling with peoples votes & making them feel like fools.

    malkanthi Thursday, 09 September 2010 05:26 AM

Useless opposition! Their experience and knowledge is good for nothing!

    SB Thursday, 09 September 2010 05:45 AM

Traitors. You cheated the UNP Voters and crossed over without any shame. How dare you challenge the Party now ? Go and sleep with MR & Company. We curse you all.

    Ramzeel Thursday, 09 September 2010 05:49 AM

If the rebels deserted the same voters who voted for them, why the hell should they go to courts to remain in the UNP. Finally only the brave and the genuine Gentlemen of the UNP will remain, the frogs will drop down by the wayside.

    Hassen Thursday, 09 September 2010 05:52 AM

    Shameless, Selfish Frogs......

Ralph Anthony Thursday, 09 September 2010 05:54 AM

These Traitors wants to keep one foot in the UNP and one foot in the SLFP. They are of view that they have no place in the socalled SLFP. They should be wipped in public.

    Buddhdasa Thursday, 09 September 2010 11:47 AM

I should be cursed. I gave all my votes to this woman Pabha. It would have been better to give my votes Prabakaran. He would have been more grateful.

    deyyiya Thursday, 09 September 2010 12:00 PM

I saty people should shout at them, spit at them and trow what ever they have with them at these politicians the next time they see them
