A writ petition has been filed in the Madras High Court finding fault with the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj’s meeting with  Lankan minister Douglas Devanantha, an absconding accused in criminal cases.

Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar, before whom the petition from A Irulandi of Meenambalpuram in Madurai came up for hearing on Friday, ordered notice to the State Home Secretary and the DGP, returnable in eight weeks. The petitioner contended that Devananda had been involved in a murder case and few other criminal cases and he was absconding. A lower court concerned had issued a proclamation order also. While so, a team led by Sushma met him during her visit to Sri Lanka on April 16 this year. If Sushma and her team were questioned,

the whereabouts of Douglas would come to light and the police could bring him to India to face the pending trials, the petitioner contended. In this connection, he had sent a representation on April 24, the petitioner said and prayed for a direction to officials concerned to dispose of his representation.(iBNlive)

Well, he did visit India along with the President of Sri Lanka and got away by using diplomatic privileges. So, why couldnt they catch and detain him that time. That would have been one of the biggest favours they could do for Sri Lanka.

Why Sushma? I think they have to interogate Mr Manmohan Singh, Sonia and all those minisyers who greeted Douglas when he visited India recently.

    Oh God!,

This guy is comparing a terror leader with member of a democratically elected government who is wanted for murder abroad though.

Don't you think IBNABOO, that it was wrong to have such criminals in cabinet.

Because we tolerate these, we see murders, rape and robbery on a day to day basis.

Criminals are NOW made to think that those are the qualities needed to succeed in politics.

    Iqbal Sunday, 09 September 2012 12:13 PM

He was given the capital punishment.

    Sumathy M Sunday, 09 September 2012 09:21 PM

Douglas has been involved in politics in Srilanka openly.Talking about his where about is nonsense. He is mostly in Jaffna with the people. He has been accused of having had illegal arms, not for murder or anything.
