Principal nabbed over alleged sexual abuse of 14 students

The Principal of a Tamil School in Haputale has been arrested over alleged sexual harassment involving 14 students, Haputale police said.

They said Grade seven and eight students have been harassed and the Child Protection Authority has taken steps to produce these students at the Diyatalawa Base hospital today for a judicial medical examination. (Palitha Ariyawansa)

    Its time we brought in new laws for sex offenders. Are the law makers going to sit back and wait till a child either dies or commits suicide like what happened to the student in India? If the law can't protect them, who will?

    It's a shocking news but it's good to hear more and more of child abuse cases coming out in recent times. In the past most of such cases went unheard and I think it is very important to educate the general public on this subject.
