A poster campaign organized by the JVP against the imprisonment of former Army Chief Sarath Fonseka in several cities were blocked by the police, JVP media unit said

Posters in Hangwella, Avisawella, Maharagama, Borella, and Wellampitiya were allegedly confiscated and torn off by the police, while several JVP members who were putting up posters in these areas were taken into police custody.

A three wheeler used to transport posters and other related material was also taken under police custody.

    Lionel Sunday, 03 October 2010 05:29 AM

Why is the govt. so scared to face the public opinion? Why aren't they allowed to put up posters?During the last elections, hundreds and thousands of posters were seen everywhere. How did those read them react?Let them give the light and they will find the way.People are not stupid. They know what to do NOW even if they made a mistake THEN. That's why the MR regime is scared NOW.Let people decide, not the cunning politicians.

You are right mate. The trouble is that those idiots havent seen the true democracy.

Dear Police, remember when people get in to street you have nowhere to run.

Raja Senanayake Saturday, 02 October 2010 02:22 PM

There is no room now for any peaceful democratic dissent. Remember how Hitlers goons attacked peaceful rallies. Crying shame on the Police that they don't respect the rights of the people.

    Perera Saturday, 02 October 2010 09:06 AM

Government should understand last time they got only 37% votes from general election. They should keep in mind majority of 63% opposite to government.

    Katussa Saturday, 02 October 2010 11:25 AM

Oh, I almost forgot, there will also be posters of the King and his kin, their blocks grinning at us from ear to ear. Saadu, saadu!!!

    Katussa Saturday, 02 October 2010 11:21 AM

Henceforth only govt. posters depicting the brutalities of the LTTE and Fonseka's alleged sins will be allowed. So be prepared to lap it all up!!

Signs of a Police State in the offing.....just the way Mussolini went about it.

    Siri Saturday, 02 October 2010 10:15 AM

Under Mussolini, stopping public agitations were started off by the Police which lead to a full-blooded Police State in no time. More to come...before the inevitable demise (like good old Mussolini).

Pushing too much is not healthy. Looks like as if someone wants another uprising so you can make that as an excuse to do many changes.
    Future is so bleak.

Cotton Hall Saturday, 02 October 2010 10:05 AM

Sorry sir, the gender too cab be changed.

Cotton Hall Saturday, 02 October 2010 10:04 AM

The way to go for a country fast moving to be a Banana Republic. I wonder what type of action the UNP is taking in support of SF.

    Dheen Saturday, 02 October 2010 09:31 AM

Dear Mr. Perera, The only thing that cannot be done now is to change the gender of a person, everything else is possible.
