The Elections Department today revoked its earlier decision to lift the ban on the use of posters by political party and independent candidates, and, instead, ordered the police to remove all posters, cut outs and banners related to the election.

Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake, a week ago, informed at a meeting of the party leaders that he decided to remove the ban on the use of posters as otherwise candidates had no means to communicate their preferential numbers and messages to voters. (Kelum Bandara)

Why is this such a big issue. Warn all the candidates that IF their supporters or they themselves have posters and cutouts in public, their authority to contest the election will be revoked prior to the Actual Elections so that they may NOT contest.

Bring in law when necessary. Most times the EC sides with the ruling party..
