Parliament today approved three months leave for Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne and UPFA MP Duminda Silva with effect from December 22.

Parliament has approved leave for MP Duminda Silva continuously since he is seeking treatment for his injuries at a hospital in Singapore.  An MP should obtain parliamentary approval to be absent for more than three months. In case, such approval is not granted, an MP will lose his seat after the lapse of three months.

Last week, the Prime Minister returned to the Country from a US hospital.

Hey I feel sorry for our Srilankan people specially poor people who vote for these power hungry thugs they enjoy their life with our hard earned and tax payers money. They come and plead
for votes and saying we'll DO this and that when they come to power but all we can see is their popping up tummies just like they are pregnant .PM just returned from USA and wanted his son to be in the Parliment This is like Russia and China red is domineering. from father to son.is this the DEMOCRATIC WAY IN sRILANKA ?

    rambari Wednesday, 05 December 2012 09:06 AM

Duminda has lost his memory. And the PM apparently suffered a stroke. What use are they in parliament anymore?

    Nadi Wednesday, 05 December 2012 09:07 AM

I hope they get better soon - but their careers are over, they are costing the taxpayer millions and we are getting nothing from them.

Calistus Jayatilleke Wednesday, 05 December 2012 01:04 PM

In any organization - public or private - there is a limit to paid sick leave, casual leave and annual leave one is entitled to. But in the case of Parliamentarians, there does not seem to be any limit to their absence and everything is paid for. Shows the difference between treatment for hard-working and hardly working.

The country has not missed anything with these two not being here which shows we don't need them. Stop wasting taxpayers $$$ and retire them.

    Hardball Wednesday, 05 December 2012 05:43 AM

There should be a new category of leave for MPs who do not have a brain. That would make things easy.

How on earth do they serve their constituents when they are on leave.

But no worry however, their own selves will be served, with an extra large spoon.

I think the crown prince in waiting l is more powerful than the Prime Minister.
