The panel appointed by UN Secretary General Ban ki-moon to advise him on matters relating to Sri Lanka will meet the UN Chief this week and formally begin work, the UN said.

A UN spokesperson said that the panel members and support staff have been conducting intensive preparatory work over the past few weeks and will meet with the Secretary-General this week, marking the formal commencement of its activities.

The panel has a four month time frame during which it will complete its study on Sri Lanka including the progress on a joint statement between the UN Chief and President Mahinda Rajapaksa signed last year.

Meanwhile asked to comment on the 18th Amendment to the constitution the UN noted that it was an “internal matter” of Sri Lanka and so will not comment on it. (Daily Mirror online)

What an unfair world! US, UK and EUROPE bombed 'terrorist' countries to stone age, killing mostly innocent civilians; They are walking scot free. I am sure our govt will blow their conclusions to smithreens!

The UN officials sit on these panels and waste millions of dollars when they can put it to good use..especially to look at countries that move forward and help in a postive manner.
Officials in the UN spend so much money on travelling, globe trotting and what has it achieved so far. The wars and the ecological problems are far greater now than when the UN was formed ?

You must be living in dreamland. We all have seen how UN exercise their impartiality & transparency in world affairs recently. People from Central Africa, Iraq, Afghanistan etc. would like say something on this.
