Rs. 125mn bribe: Customs officers released on bail

The three Customs officers who were in remand custody over soliciting a bribe of Rs. 125 million, were released by Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya today.

The three officers were released on Rs. 100,000 bail and two sureties of Rs. 5 million each. They were banned from travelling abroad and were asked to report to the Bribery Commission on the last Sunday of every month.

The three Customs officers including a superintendent were arrested by the Bribery Commission on October 15 for soliciting a bribe of Rs.125 million from a businessman in Panchikawatta. (Shehan Chamika Silva)
