Despite a ban on pro-LTTE commemorations in Mullaitivu District, the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) –controlled Northern Provincial Council (NPC) intends to have a function in the North today to pay to tribute to those who lost their lives, party officials said yesterday.

The NCP has organised this event. TNA MP Suresh Premachandran told Daily Mirror yesterday that the event was originally to be conducted in Mullaivaikkal, the area where the last battle was fought between the LTTE and the armed forces on May 18, 2009 ending three decades of war.

He said, the venue had to be changed following a court order that banned any form of LTTE commemoration in the area.

“The NCP is organising it. We will also participate in it to commemorate those who lost their lives,” he said.
Mr. Premachandran criticised the government for not allowing such functions.

“On the one hand, the government says that it will allow the Tamil people to have such commemorations. On the other hand, it prevents them from doing so through police action. This is duplicity,” he said.(Kelum Bandara)

I am not the supporter of LTTE or terrorism whoever commits. Basically, my understanding here in SL civil war, both the side were doing terrorist activities during the war. Then, logically, both side should celebrate for their own people who lost their lives and it should not be the onside. If Singales say that their soldiers are war heroes, then the Tamils also deserve to say the same for those who died during war with SL soldiers. Hope this government is doing better to unite the minds of all the peoples in SL and all the best to MS.

It looks like MR and his thugs try to fish in muddy waters!!

Basic understanding to me is that you remember the people, immaterial of ethnicity, who lost their lives not the terrorists that were responsible for the loss!

These are not very good signes. When Mr. MAHINDA was in power this kind of thing was never heard of.

Neither was the MR govt. concerned about reconciliation nor is the MS govt. Both are cheating the Tamils.
