It is bad that a Head of State is welcomed this way. Tit for tat will continue.
Fair N Square Thursday, 02 December 2010 05:36 PM
This is a slap in the face for MR. From the more than 300,000 who live in UK 90 percent went for reasons beyond war, which is economic refugees. They went not with the visas issued by the UK embassy but by other illegal means. Now that they have got their British Passports ditching the SL citizenship and being the reason for all this, decisions need to be made.
Deport all Tamil British passport holders on arrival in SL for, we do not want them here the way they did not want our President. I am not a fan of our President BUT this is down right ridiculous.
Shame on the gov of UK for not providing the necessary back up security for a visiting Head of State, let it be a private visit or not. Isn't the LTTE a banned organisation in the UK and how come the supporters are not arrested. If some demonstrate for the Taliban, do u think they will not be arrested? Double standards of the west.

lalith Wije - While we are begging we have no clout. Then stop begging from the UK & US & the West. You know the adage ' Beggars cannot be choosers". So stop your high minded stupid attitude and eat humble pie. We are a third world nation depended on the West for AID and for our Exports. We cannot export our products to China, Burma, North Korea, Iran and so forth. Open you eyes and see the truth of the situation.

SL mission in UK should bear the total responsibility for this
entire mess up as this is not a state visit by SL head of state, for UK govt to be responsible for all arrangements, again all
what has happened was within the democratic frame and you
cant do anything about it
Kithul Ramba Thursday, 02 December 2010 06:27 PM
Ten years later the news will be ,yes UK Govt was involved and US tipped MI5. He was not going to Oxford from the beginning but this is a big drama.

Did the President go on a private or official visit?
Nihal Amarasekera Friday, 03 December 2010 04:33 AM
we don't have to write books; it's crystal clear that "Great Britain" has shamelessly succumbed to terrorism; nothing else. They will reap the benefits in style in time to come.
Appuhamy Friday, 03 December 2010 04:47 AM
I totally agree with you FNS. Also confiscate their properties in SL.

If the President was on a official visit the Brits should take total responsibility to what happened at their airport.

This two country's UK an USA are the biggest terrorists in this world,
Champions of war crimes.

Get tiger side. then you can get more refugees.
lalith Wije Thursday, 02 December 2010 01:12 PM
Agree. We should give a similar treatment to the British ministers when they come here. The Muslims in SL should DEMAND that Tony Blair be tried for war crimes. Lalith Wije
raj gonsalkorale Thursday, 02 December 2010 01:13 PM
Sri Lankans will have you know that security of a Head of State visiting your country is the responsibility of the UK government, and not the responsibility of a police station in some corner or that of a body which until now could have been regarded as being a prestigious body. If your Queen or the Prime Minister visits Kotte when in Sri Lanka, it is not the Welikada Police station that looks after their security. Maybe we can do that from now on. Do not add insult to injury by issuing such non sensical disclaimers.

Wimal, Paba , Ranil are just political jokers.... and MR is a smart politaical thug. SF is a military thug... Long live mother Lanka....
kulendra de vass Thursday, 02 December 2010 01:25 PM
SL High Commision in UK? They should have been expected these security concerns including the demonstrations at the air port. Poor planning of HE's visit to UK, given HE a bad reputation and to SL. High commission did not do much, when we were at war as well.

SL mission in London is at fault. It should have expected it but it under estimated the problems this visit might cause. It's an embarrassment to MR and to the country. Knowing the sheer volume of Tamils live in the UK, this was a huge mistake.
I am sure British Govt. has a hand in in the cancellation, although they deny it. Police in the UK would have spoken to the the Govt. before instruct the Oxford union to cancel the speech.
Waruna Thursday, 02 December 2010 01:12 PM
It is a shame to British Government for inability to ensure security to Head of State. If the UK admits that the public order is a matters for the Police, then in turn whole responsibility comes to the UK government to provide security and to disperse and arrest those demonstrators who held LTTE flags. UK was nourishing and caring Tigers those days but even after total elimination still UK is sponsoring Tiger proxies who will see no hope for revival of their fight as long as MR and Gota are in power. UK has forgotten International Law and Moral qualities of hospitality
Asa Thursday, 02 December 2010 02:17 PM
First of all, our presidents visit has to be an official state visit for the UK govt to give state security and protection. As far as we know MR was on a private visit to Oxford Union and another private visit to MoD UK. So cannot put the total blame on them. However our mission in London has to be more vigilant in organizing these events and assessing the possible treats and repercussions. This is a huge let down by our foreign service.
Steve Johnson Thursday, 02 December 2010 02:29 PM
I thought this was a private visit.
This is what papers have said.
So have they pre arranged the security with the British Police ???
Tharma Thursday, 02 December 2010 02:38 PM
This is a clear indication how the international community respect MR and his political stands. Even UK dont care if MR flee from Uk.
Sicillian Thursday, 02 December 2010 02:47 PM
I am happy that the president didn't rely of on the HC. They are bunch of jokers who treat the Sri Lankans as waste.
Rasika T Thursday, 02 December 2010 03:06 PM
Shameful. A Head of State must have equal status in any country. After what we have seen on wikileaks nothing is surprsing..Wolves in Sheep's clothing.
