Nine soldiers with 800grams of ganja in their possession were arrested by the Habarana police in Hathareskotuwa.

The suspects had hidden the ganja in their pockets and trousers to evade detection. The suspects were taken into custody after the private bus they were traveling was stopped at a police road block.  The nine soldiers were heading to their camps after concluding their holiday when they were arrested.

The Habarana police are conducting further investigations. (KKA)

In the past alcohol was considered a "drug" in America but due to the high levels of consumption the government had no other alternative than to make it legal. Look at Amsterdam where ganga is not only legal but also a large money earner for the the government.
Hypocrites drink alcohol and think they're better than people who smoke ganja. Sad considering that alcohol is far worse for your body and mind than ganga will ever be.
The day will come when ganga is as freely available as cigarettes and beer. No point in judging people...you are all sinners...

Nice analysis. How did you see it when the women in prison was found with illegal drugs. It was the same when the prison was searched for drugs and there was chaos.

well said.... This double stranded should end. We never hear a person high on Ganja responsible for a murder or a fight... But look at the bloody drunk eds, They are a pain to others.

A few bad apples ruin the respectable image of the entire army. It's idiots like this who should be put in front of a court martial and given the best possible punishment.

    Kadira Sunday, 14 November 2010 08:27 AM

The police were looking at the wrong place for ganja. Now they know where they can find the stuff.

    Faqi Sunday, 14 November 2010 08:28 AM

This is nothing new, soldiers the world over do take drugs to combat stress. This is not the first instance and it will be not the last. In any case most people feel Ganja is a recreational drug. Alcohol is worse, it not only destroys the individual but the whole family as well. Go figure.......

    Nan Sunday, 14 November 2010 08:31 AM

Wow..what a head line. even 15 yo school boys possess MJ these days. only difference is, these guys got caught.

    Komisiripala Sunday, 14 November 2010 08:34 AM

for ganja? oh please. these boys would lay down their lives for the rest of you. at a heartbeat. and we dare judge them because they smoked some pot? just listen to yourselves, you self-righteous philistines...

personally i think there are way worse things that police should be looking into rather than this. honestly

    Faqi Sunday, 14 November 2010 09:13 AM

Ajith - Read my blog again. I stated a fact. I said nothing about supporting or not supporting the use of Ganja. One does not necessarily have to be in combat to feel stressed. For some getting through a normal day is stressful.

    Kushantha Sunday, 14 November 2010 10:47 AM

    Soldiers are not saints.
