Parliamentary Council which met today approved President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s nomination of Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake as the Chief Justice, sources said.

It also approved Jagath S. Balapatabedi as commissioner to investigate bribery or corruption.

Such appointments should be done through an independent mechanism to ensure that the appointees could function with no interference or any obligation and to win public confidance.
