A mini tornado struck parts of the island early this morning damaging homes and uprooting trees. Officials in Bingiriya said that 26 houses were damaged in the tornado and two children were also injured.
The mini tornado lasted just over a minute when it struck Bingiriya, villagers in the area told Daily Mirror online. Two houses were completely damaged in the area.

in Sri Lanka we don't have the technology to warn events such as tornadoes since they occur very suddenly for very short time in a localized area. But people should be aware of how dangerous a tornado can be.
