The police have sought the assistance of the three armed forces to ensure that security is maintained during the General Elections next week with more than 7000 candidates expected to contest for a seat in parliament, IGP Mahinda Balasuriya said.

The IGP said that in addition to the 59,000 policemen deployed for election duty, they have sought the assistance of 20,000 military personnel.

He added that the police together with the help of the armed forces will ensure the security of the voters, polling stations and transportation of ballot boxes as 7620 candidates representing 36 parties and 306 independent groups are taking part in the elections. (SD)

this unable fellow said last week that certain politicians put the police under pressure to do unlawful things. Its not going to be better with the army doing the police jobs as long as the army is not neutral as they do anything what Gota wants, the ruling party is going to hijack the general election with the help of this highly corrupt police/army.

    Tuesday, 30 March 2010 09:00 AM

Whats the point MR IGP?. With your support this regime will win. But wont last forever. Why dont you save the security for ur own sake. Tables will turn sooner or later. Wait and see. Soon, very soon the public will realise and reject all of you.
