RajasH Sunday, 01 August 2010 08:18 AM
for once he is talking sense,he should initiate a project to clean up the monks and purge all bogus monks who are drug and sex addicts and preach racism and power hungry
Dassanayake Sunday, 01 August 2010 08:47 AM
Well said Minister, At least One wise minister gave his point blank comments on Parliment. Monks should be monks not politicians...
Hemantha Sunday, 01 August 2010 10:06 AM
Not only monks, drug dealers, underworld gang operators, also should not enter parliament.
PM Sunday, 01 August 2010 10:07 AM
Mervin Silva is becoming wiser these days!! Keep up the good words!
sambaata Sunday, 01 August 2010 10:42 AM

Ayoma Lanka Atapattu Sunday, 01 August 2010 11:20 AM

T,Nayagam Sunday, 01 August 2010 12:53 PM
What he is saying is absolutely true, let them be in Pansala to say Bana not to wear the Robe and go around setting fire to houses and shops. Well said Dr.you are getting cleaver .
Duminda Sunday, 01 August 2010 06:24 AM
Monks did play a major role in the War era. They managed to bring a Sinhalese Buddhist voice into parliament. They archived what they wanted. But i don't c the point of them hanging around still.
Geronimo Monday, 02 August 2010 01:55 AM
But most of the time they gave the wrong message, didn't they?
Sometimes with their feet in their mouths? Frauds!!
Kaps Monday, 02 August 2010 02:08 AM
He was elected by the people! For once I agree with the Dr. Politics (and many other things) are not for the monks.
jeena Monday, 02 August 2010 02:23 AM
YES, if the Buddhist monks are allowed then other religious leaders also should be present, Democracy & discrimination cannot live under the same roof !! Mr Merwyn you are Right this time !!!

I agrre with you Dr. please speake to MR chase these monks away from Parliment. you can purpose to appoint Ordinary intelectuals to the parliment. Buddhist monks did nothing in the parliment, other than getting Car permits. I am a buddhist.
rajinda silva Monday, 02 August 2010 08:20 AM
These guys are not "Monks" anyway!!! So no question about entering politics. They know that too well.
LondonLankan_DT Monday, 02 August 2010 03:34 PM

spg Sunday, 01 August 2010 05:00 AM
what about jokers and people who are convicted for cheques forgery in court of law
Nihal Sunday, 01 August 2010 03:03 AM
On this issue I am on Mervyn's side. Well said. When it comes to respect, they have lost it long ago.
Dinesh Sunday, 01 August 2010 03:08 AM
He is absolutely correct for once. Parliament is not a place for the monks or for that matter any other priests. They bring disrespect to themselves and to the religion that they represent.
sashy Sunday, 01 August 2010 03:15 AM
what about certified joker entering parliament??
Deepal Sunday, 01 August 2010 03:18 AM
Well, this time the Dr. is right. Buddhist monks are there for a different purpose and not to try to run the country.
Babanis Sunday, 01 August 2010 04:03 AM
Totally agree. Also need to have a minimum qualification obtained in Sri Lanka for entering parliament. I should think a degree is not appropriate.
Rif Sunday, 01 August 2010 04:08 AM
He is 100% correct
agreed with him on this
citizen1 Sunday, 01 August 2010 04:14 AM
Lovely! Now go catch some mosquitos please!
Hemal Sunday, 01 August 2010 04:42 AM

What right he has to talk about respect after harassing Kolonnawe hamuduro in parliament? There was phtographic evidence of him attacking the monk in the house.
Daminda
Benadict Sunday, 01 August 2010 05:39 AM
I agree with you, but its too late now.
You should have said this many years ago.
Lanakan Sunday, 01 August 2010 06:08 AM
monks, clergies, thugs, law offenders, fake doctors should not be in parliment. this will mean, we have to go for another general election.
raj Sunday, 01 August 2010 06:12 AM
I totally agree with you Sir though I do not agree witn you most of the time.
Rajapaksa Sunday, 01 August 2010 06:15 AM
100% agree with the Deputy Minister. They are now competing and criticising other politicians for power. (craving for power). Can we accept this?
