Mankulam should be the Northern Capital-TELO

Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO) Leader Selvam Adaikalanathan has proposed that Mankulam in Vavuniya be named as the capital of the Northern Province.

Members of the party, which is a coalition partner of the Tamil National Alliance, met yesterday in Vavuniya and agreed to the proposal, a party official said.

It is a great idea to have a not crowded under developed and central place as capital for Northern Province. We must encourage others ideas, Colombo still the capital for the country. The country needs expansion for few more cities as Colombo cannot support the growing demand, MR also worked on expanding but it was in a wrong place, if that effort was put in one of the northern part of the country result would have been much different.

PROVINCIAL CAPITAL, not capital of Sri Lanka. Nothing wrong in naming capitals for all provinces including the North. They can have the provincial legislature in that city or town. In fact, Sri Jayawardanapura should not belong to any of the 9 provinces but its own region since it is the nations capital. Examples are Australia (ACT), USA (Washington, D.C.) and many more.
