After expressing her strong displeasure over Sri Lankan defence personnel undergoing training in her state, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has now ordered for sending back two Sri Lankan football teams which were undergoing training in Chennai.

The directive from the Chief Minister came after one of the teams, Royal College of Colombo, played a match against the Chennai Customs team at a stadium in the city on Friday. Ms Jayalalithaa has also ordered the suspension of a stadium official for allowing the soccer team to play the "friendly" tie, alleging that he insulted Tamils. "The officer has humiliated the sentiments of people in Tamil Nadu," she said.

She has also slammed the Centre for allowing the Sri Lankan players to undergo training and develop their skills in India.

The latest incident comes just over a week after Ms Jayalalithaa asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to halt an ongoing training programme for two Sri Lankan defence personnel at the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington near Ooty. In a strongly-worded letter, she had demanded for the immediate sending back of the two defence personnel, alleging that the training "has been mischievously concealed from my government, showing scant regard for the views of my government as well as for the sentiments of the people of Tamil Nadu."

Last month, the Chief Minister had opposed a similar training programme for nine Sri Lankan Air Force personnel at the Tambaram Air Force Station in Chennai. In view of her stiff opposition and protests from other parties in the state including ally DMK, the Centre had been forced to move them to the Yelahanka Airforce Station in Bengaluru in order to enable them to complete their training. Ms Jayalalithaa had dubbed the move as "not proper", adding that "instead of sending these personnel back to Sri Lanka, the Government of India exhibited excessive enthusiasm and concern for these personnel". Ms Jayalalithaa had then described it as "anti- Tamil" and said "Tamils want action against Sri Lanka for war crimes and they will not accept this" and that "Tamils even suspect whether the Centre is acting against them". Now this is too much. Can understand her stance against training soldiers, but sports no way...This will create more hatred. Now its the time for everyone to play a key role in building the bond between the communities, not to create hatred. Now, what is our representative in Chennai doing? We have an High commission there..Looks they are totally inactive .Need to change, and put on a person, who can handle things so that, diplomatic ties are built in...

    wiren Monday, 03 September 2012 06:14 AM

What a petty, small minded woman. Makes you wonder as to what she's doing in the field of politics.

The Royalist Monday, 03 September 2012 09:14 AM

Is she messing up with Royal this time? For her notice Tamil leaders like Ponnambalam Ramanathan & Ponnambalam Arunchlingam 're produced by this same school. Why our govt. can not put a travel ban to Tamil Nadu? This woman is sending back almost all the Sri Lankans travelling there, so it makes sense. If we ban all the imports from Tamil Nadu then she will realize, anyway we have a massive negative balance of trade with India. But our govt. is filled with "weda beri tarzons" know, so that won't happen.

    Pandula Monday, 03 September 2012 10:05 AM

Next time make sure to send all trainees to Chaina.

    asfar Tuesday, 04 September 2012 03:16 AM

actions of jayalalitha harms tamil nadu and must be rejected by people of tamilnadu.

    Daniel Tuesday, 04 September 2012 03:48 AM

Royal College is a School which cherishes the values of equality and fairplay, regardless of race, religion, caste or background. We were proud to have as classmates not only sons of the rich and famous, but those from underprivileged families.
Any sports team from RC always has members, even captains of all ethnic origins. Football at royal particularly attracted many Tamil & Muslim students. This is a sad occasion for friendly ties between the people of the 2 countries. Politicians make hay while people suffer.

Sri Lankan team SHOULD NOT play in Chennai. Also impose heavy tarrif and non - tarirf barriers to anything coming from Tamil Nadu

    Rak Tuesday, 04 September 2012 08:33 AM

I don't know the current situation of RC soccer team but about 10 years ago when I was a student there RC soccer team was mostly consisted of Tamil players.

    The lady needs psychiatric treatment..

    Fanam Sunday, 02 September 2012 04:15 PM

I wouldn't blame Jayalalitha or any other politicians in TN. Our people seems to be shameless. Knowing all the dirty treatments and even physical assaults Sri Lankans had to face so far, some of our officials and participants seems to try their luck still. Our government also seems not controlling this and letting our citizens face such situations.
Stop going to this stupid State, we can live without that state. There are much better countries to visit.

    Shyam Sunday, 02 September 2012 04:25 PM

Are there tamil players in Royal College team?

    Dilip Sunday, 02 September 2012 04:51 PM

    Dave Sunday, 02 September 2012 06:14 PM

Pathetic situation, its so sad to see how JJ and the others read the situation in SL.
It’s high time Srilanka learns to stand on its own feet or seek other interest.
    God bless Srilanka
    Dave

Arthur Padmasiri Sunday, 02 September 2012 08:08 PM

Communal politics at its best. Very short sighted acts by JJ

    Fair N Square Sunday, 02 September 2012 08:16 PM

Stupidity has no boundaries... Will she stop SL cricket teams playing in chennai? how about SL players playing in the IPL? In response should, SL stop all saree/shalwar vendors and all ppl from HER STATE from coming to Sri-Lanka to make a living...?

    Nan Sunday, 02 September 2012 08:41 PM

JJ - wow.. so much for diplomacy..

Real peacea Sunday, 02 September 2012 02:24 PM

    Why this kola veri.......

    Bandara Sunday, 02 September 2012 11:35 PM

If TNA rules the North with powers similar to Tamil Nadu state governemnt one can imagine the fate of other communities. It suggests very clearly that Police and Land powers should not be delegated to Provincial Councils.

    lal Sunday, 02 September 2012 11:57 PM

Why, why why do Sri Lankan officials send our young citizens to that barbaric, s..t hole in India? The actions of leaders and their cronies in sqaulid state of Tamil Nadu are only inches away from harming precious sons and daughters of our soil. A travel warning is what is required, not travel to the country that stabbed Sri Lanka in the back! Has Royal College authorities lost their senses?

Rara Avis Monday, 03 September 2012 12:47 AM

It is high time the SL Government issued a travel advisory banning all travel to Tamil Nadu by Sri Lankans and Declaring Mrs. Jayalalitha Persona non Grata.

    Roy Monday, 03 September 2012 01:09 AM

She is mixing sports with politics now. I think she is a racist as well.

nicky karunarathna Monday, 03 September 2012 01:46 AM

One JJ in Tamil Nadu and other in in SL call Dr. Jayalath Jayawardene(JJ) Both are insane, warp minded, lunatics, God believing, cruel, and both see no good about SL and its people. Is it the problem about the name sake JJ's? I have all the answers to the world buning probelems but not for this. Somebody have to explain why this is so.

Sri Lanka Monday, 03 September 2012 02:12 AM

    This is pure madness.......

    Nodrog Monday, 03 September 2012 02:41 AM

No football training in TN, only terrorists training?

    Lobo Monday, 03 September 2012 02:45 AM

She really should get a life and stop taking her frustrations out on us. Very unladylike behavior.

    sm Monday, 03 September 2012 02:40 AM

Need to hang the idiots who send our people there.

Nihal Amarasekera Monday, 03 September 2012 03:16 AM

    This one is insane.

mackie noohuthambi Monday, 03 September 2012 03:29 AM
