If our neighboring India can produce at very low costs, why can't we do it? What are the so many advisers and professionals doing for the fat salaries they get? It is better to satisfy 22 million than satisfying hundreds of farmers. May be commission kings at work. Find methods to produce at low costs than harming millions of citizens.

I feel we are financially stripped and our blood is sucked by politicians. This govt. lose money on Mihin, unnecessary airport, sea port, non-alliance summit etc. etc. We are forced to tighten our belt and fund these fatty pigs. These pigs and their families are fed subsidized meal at parliament. Probably we can effort to use onion and potatoes only during festival.

Imported onions and potatoes are cheaper than locally grown produce. Therefore, the Govt imposes levies on imported onions and potatoes so that they will be as expensive as the locally grown onions and potatoes. How, is this going to help the consumers. Instead, the Govt should help the Sri lankan growers better farming techniques to lower their production costs to help lower the prices to the consumers.

Because the government cannot control them

Our production does not meet the needs of the country hence imports had become necessary. Having paid taxes and incurring other expenses the imports are cheaper, it appears that our efforts in growing Potatoes and Big onions are not very successful. The remedy is better methods of growing and not price increase on imports, thereby imposing more difficulties in feeding the family.
Is this not another goody for garnering Uva votes.
