Police said that four vehicles were damaged due to stoning in the Kahathuduwa area along the Southern Expressway Sunday evening.

The incidents had taken place between 4.00pm and 5.00pm, police media spokesman Ajith Rohana said. The incidents took place on the same day evening after the police issued a warning to people not to throw stones at vehicles travelling in Sri Lanka’s first highway.

A total of 57 accidents have been reported causing injuries to 18 persons so far since the first expressway opened on November 27, last year. (Supun Dias)

Where are the CCTV cameras when it is most needed???

These are used to see where VIP's are heading. Installing of CCTV camera's along the Southern Express should have been done before it was opened to the public? What are they waiting for, Sirasa TV?????

You can't take any action against stone throwers.

    They are opposition supporters!

The villagers should definitely know the culprits so police need to apply some good old fashion interogation method to find them and charge for attempted murder.

Imran - Highways a must and we need more and more. Dont get confused. Whoever do these cheap work I mean throwng stones at vehicles should be stoped. Just one visit of Gota is enough for those cowards who are nvolved in this act. I think its one of the pattern that some of us Srilankans inherit - enjoy hurting others.

I bet the local people have decided to push some local thugs to stone the cars so that they can get them back onto the slow road as their road side businesses are having less trade.

    Don Tuesday, 17 January 2012 07:10 AM

Is it you who throw stones Imran? You sounds like you utterly hate the Highway. Pull some brain before politics man!
