Opposition Common Candidate Gen. Sarath Fonseka has sent letters of demand for eight newspapers for publishing articles defamatory of his character, his joint spokesman JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said.

Mr. Dissanayake told a news conference that Gen. Fonseka’s legal advisors are also seeking the possibility of suing some ruling party politicians who too made such insulting remarks in the run to the election.

“The UPFA’s propaganda machinery has collapsed beyond redemption. They cannot salvage it. So, they have resorted to all forms of mud slinging. The UPFA has not revived the economy or improved the health sector. Nor have they established democracy by ensuring media freedom. They cannot canvas votes on these lines. The only option to sling mud at the opposition,” he said. (KB)

You should sue "Sunday Leader" first, if you are so honest!

    Tuesday, 12 January 2010 09:56 AM

Pardon me but what is 'Gel'?

    Tuesday, 12 January 2010 09:15 AM

MR can't continue "boruwa" This is the end of AND COMPBY

    Tuesday, 12 January 2010 08:59 AM

Do you want to have the freedom to say untruths too. This can be decided only by Court of Law as SF has done & not by attacking Sirasa or killing Editor Sunday Leader.

    Tuesday, 12 January 2010 08:53 AM

Ciritics are to be tolerated but not untruths - big difference in the two.

    Tuesday, 12 January 2010 08:48 AM

World improves on change and that is evolution. Don't be afraid to take risks - it is preferable to move forward by daring to improve. Without risk you will be wallowing in the same mud always.

    Tuesday, 12 January 2010 08:46 AM

and so much for the one that already is the president!!!

    Tuesday, 12 January 2010 08:45 AM

militry rule will start from now on, and be ready to open the doors when militry comes taping , best of luck when we all vote on the 26th.

    Tuesday, 12 January 2010 08:45 AM

come back now and see how thousands attend his meetings. and mind you, these aren't people who are threatened into boarding buses like in MR's campaign meetings

    Monday, 11 January 2010 07:49 PM

Is "Sunday Leader" one of them?

    Monday, 11 January 2010 06:17 PM

Jayawewa!!! This will be a good move, as this kind of treatment is necessary, in our country, to develop it. Everyone is trying to cheat one another, than resort to honest lifestyles!

    Monday, 11 January 2010 06:02 PM

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE FIRST ONE: AGAINST THE "SUNDAY LEADER"?

    Monday, 11 January 2010 12:59 PM

    Why not the "Sunday Leader"?

    Monday, 11 January 2010 03:52 PM

SF these days have had the full dose of Politics and must surely be thinking been the Army Commander was less strenuous.

    Monday, 11 January 2010 03:25 PM

sf...what to sue newpapers. where the madia freedom is? think back and see who is jvp. like here in up, a frnd has described what jvp can do. it i posters n wall papers. sf..dont be a fool.....
mr is the man for our country!! president, jaya weva.....

    Monday, 11 January 2010 03:21 PM

I dont know what will happen if he elected... may be good may be bad...will see. for me known devil is better than unknown one...

    Monday, 11 January 2010 02:57 PM

Let the matter go to court. If the papers that published articles about Mr. Fonseka cannot justify them, then they will have to pay a price! On the other hand, if they bring some evidence and more information ("mud" - some may call it), then the loser will be Mr. Fonseka!

    Monday, 11 January 2010 02:49 PM

A very good move to curtail the 'mud-slinging' campaign!

    Monday, 11 January 2010 02:46 PM

If the government is so confident about a "landslide victory" against SF, why are they burning his offices; jailing his supporters; and, slinging "mud" at him, all day? These are all signs of sure defeat, for the corrupt UPFA regime!

    Monday, 11 January 2010 02:41 PM

He has proved himself to be no better than MR, may be even worse. He's on a self destructive path, making hasty decisions without using his own common sense, let alone consulting some good advisors. Not having a clear cut policy seems to be his policy. And on top of it, MR, not to be outdone, is playing politics with everything. Who do they imagine us to be? Fools who'll accept anything without reasoning? May be we really are, after all, it is we who elect them!

    Monday, 11 January 2010 01:24 PM

This is just the the 'tip of the iceberg'!

    Monday, 11 January 2010 01:19 PM

The General should also sue "Gel," to cure him of his "verbal diarrhea"!

    Monday, 11 January 2010 01:17 PM

Very Good! We want clean politics.

    Monday, 11 January 2010 01:04 PM

What happened to the case against the "Sunday Leader"?
