Fonseka demands for wife’s phone

General Sarath Fonseka, who is under military custody, will continue his fast unto death, despite the military providing him telephone facilities today to speak to his children, sources said.

Speaking to Daily Mirror Online, Anoma Fonseka said that her husband had rejected the telephone provided by the army as he insisted he wanted to speak to his two daughters only via his wife’s mobile phone.

“He is continuing his fast. He will only stop if he is allowed to speak to our children through my mobile phone. He does not trust anyone,” Mrs. Fonseka said soon after she visited the General today.

However the army said that following a request made to the authorities, the military had given him the privilege of speaking to his daughters over a mobile phone and insisted that this was an ‘additional’ privilege provided to the General as the Army was not bound by any court order or any other law to facilitate calls between the General and his daughters. Very sad situation. A national hero! 'The world's best General' who tamed the most illusive terror organiztion in the world. A phone is a phone & if he honestly wants to speak to his daughters, does it really matter which phone he uses? It is believed he has abused this privilege to keep in touch with American intelligence agents to prepare dossiers to try the S/L Army and hence the reason that he only wants Anoma's phone.

This is getting really crazy...Usually when in custody you are permitted to make one single call, which is usually to your lawyer. GoSL should deny him the use of any telephone.

How strange that the army general thinks that the government cannot listen to his conversation with his daughters if he uses his wife's mobile. Our guys probably have the best IT technology to tap phones, internet etc. which he should jolly well know as that was the key to many a successes with the LTTE

Though MR. Gotabaya repeatedly saying that there is nothing his involvement in this, any fool can understand that this is a personal revenge.
SF was a war hero, he was a defeated presidential candidate.
Why Mr President is trying to humiliate him so much.
Mr. President has won the margin of 1.8 m.
If government is not going to stop this harassment to SF, more sympathy votes will be obtained by him in GE. Also the good name of Sri Lanka and the reputation of the government will be in danger.
