Deputy Minister Hemal Gunasekara was today questioned over the allegations of assault on Police Constable (PC) Suminda Saman on May 30 in Dodangoda, the Police said.

“The Special Investigations Unit of Mirihana Police questioned Deputy Minister Gunasekara and recorded a statement over the incident where a PC was attacked,” Police Spokesman SSP AJith Rohana said.

PC Suminda Saman, who issued a fine to the Deputy Minister on the Southern Expressway on May 20, was assaulted by a group of men at Bombuwala near the Dodangoda entry point.

The Police officer attached to the Kottawa Expressway Police unit was on his way for duty in his car when the incident occurred on May 30.

Police said his car had been blocked by a group of men who arrived in a cab and assaulted him after dragging him out of the car. His car was set on fire by the gang.

SSP Rohana said that no one had been arrested in connection with the assault so far. Further investigations are being carried out by the Mirihana Police.(DS)

Police are all so weak? Those thugs should be behind bars, pending police inquiries.
Police you are armed with a written law to work with. Remember police is the custodian of the law of the land.
