A total of 1,546 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in a special operation launched from April 10.
Police said 846 motorbike riders, 475 three-wheel drivers, 68 car drivers and 46 van drivers were arrested.
They said a total of 222 drivers had been arrested the 24 hour period from April 16 to 17.
Police launched a special round-the-clock operation to nab drunk drivers during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year holidays.

Good job Police. Keep it up. Get some blood alchol measure equipments and see whether penalty can be linked to prohibiting license for a period of time.

Yes, but how many will manage to use their influence and the sheer 99% corruption in Police Stations to escape any penalty? We know that the minimum for drunk driving is suspension of Driving License for 6 months.

If they can't change even after heard so many deaths in the past due to bad driving and drunken driving,It's only the time of God to decide their fate.Casualties will be the drivers,passengers or pedestrians but hardly the Police in duty.It's our duty to protect our self and others on the road.
