The Students Federation for Free Eelam in Chennai on Thursday demanded that the two Indian Premier League teams owned by Tamils, Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, drop Lankan cricketers from their squads.

During a press conference here, Students Federation for Free Eelam coordinator V Prabakaran said a total of three Sri Lankan cricketers were playing for the two teams, while Kumar Sangakkara was chosen captain of the Sunrisers.

“Since both these teams, Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, are owned by two Tamils, N Srinivasan and Kalanidhi Maran respectively, they must drop the players from their teams before Friday night,” he demanded.

In the event that the players are not dropped, Prabakaran said, the students would lay siege to the offices of India Cements and Sun Group. The federation also demanded that the Centre snap all sporting ties with the island nation.( Express News Service)

this happened all over the world. South Africa under apartheid was subjected to a variety of international boycotts, including on sports. and now Pakistan players are banned in participating IPL. This time for SriLanka?

Now is the time quit IPL boys. Don't get hammered in India and come back.

Tamil Nadu goverment and the people who against the Sri Lankan have no right to interfiere with Sri Lankan tamil problem or Sri Lankan internal problem at all. this is our internal matter and I should want to say that they are spreding wrong information about the war, goverment of Sri Lanka and tamil living in Sri Lanka and it shows very clearly to any one that they are purely supporting LTTE and by that gaining political advantages from the situatian they created in Tamil Nadu.We are living in peace as Sri Lankan in Sri Lanka and no any deviation among us.

Arjuna should first advice his brother Nishantha Ranatunga not to violate sports law by being the CEO of the sports channel who is given rights to broadcast all matches in Sri Lanka.

While Condemning the action of T.N Govt to Involve sports into Politics the demand to drop Sanga is an added insult to the matter and our cricketers are shameful to still hang in there for the love of Money and without disgracing this country further ,they all should boycott the entire IPL !

Students in most countries are usually the first to be recognised as progressive in their outlook and rebel against authoritarianism of any sort. The students in Chennai appear the exception as they seem to be taking retrograde steps to the dark ages. Them demanding to drop Sangakkara because he is not a Tamil is incredible. He is one celebrity I know who is staunchly on the side of fighting for justice for the Tamil people.

    Thiruchelvam Friday, 29 March 2013 10:59 AM

This is pure south Indian politics, they are playing games for their own benefits. No one worries about the Sri Lankan Tamils, they are using this as a pawn in their big chess game. Leave the Cricketers, they are trying to make a living out of Cricket.
