The Democratic People’s Front (DPF) and a former UNP ally today slammed UNP Leader Ranil Wickramasingha and a few other party members alleging they were behind the decision not to give former MP Mano Ganesan a national list slot in parliament.

President Mahinda Rajapakse, expressing his concern over the failure to elect Mano Ganesan to parliament, telephoned him on Friday morning and said he was shocked that Ganesan had not been given a seat in parliament. Likewise, MP’s such as Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Vijitha Herath, CWC Leader Arumugan Thondaman and SLFP (M) Leader Mangala Samaraweera have also telephoned Ganesan to express dismay on his omission from the national list.

The DPF says that that the decision to not give Mano Ganesan a seat in Parliament was the ‘dirty work’ of the ‘Gang of 5’ of the UNP consisting of UNP Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe, Karu Jayasooriya, Tissa Attanayake, Ravi Karunayake and Malik Samarawickrama.

“This Gang of 5 is ruining this grand old party by throwing away it’s own loyal members and steadfast minority allies. Even Rosy Senanayake MP who carries lot of respect from the Catholics and among the women and Mr. Muzambil, Western Provincial Councilor and prime Muslim leader in UNP’s Colombo balamandalaya are affected by this Gang-of-5,” DPF National Organiser and Colombo District Parliamentarian Praba Ganesan alleged.

The party further held Ranil Wickramasinghe responsible for the blunders and failures of the UNP and warned that Wickramasingha will have to ‘pay heavily’ for not electing Mano Ganesan to parliament especially since Ganesan was the Vice President of the UNF alliance.

“Ranil Wickramasingha has given into bad advice of his gang members. But he cannot escape. As the Leader, history will hold him responsible for all the blunders under him. He has by his own act, due to bad advice, distanced himself from the Tamil people by blocking Mano Ganesan in the 7th parliament. He will pay the political price for this. We will never allow any more Tamil votes going to the UNP as long as this Gang commands the UNP,” Prabha Ganesan warned.

The party further warned of stepping on to the streets of Colombo against Wickramasingha’s decision.

“We will get on to the Colombo streets. We are democratic fighters. This Gang will soon realize that they have touched the wrong end of the live wire. They will learn their mistake soon in Colombo’s North, Central, East, West and Borella and Dehiwela electorates. We will then spread it to all parts of the country where Tamils live. It is only the beginning of end of the Gang,” Ganesan warned. (Daily Mirror online)

I'm no Ranil supporter. But I respect him for not selecting this Big Foul Mouthed supporter on the bonus ticket to Parliament. This is the man who canvassed againsts the SL Govt influencing western Diplomats spreading false stories misleading the West.

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 12:44 PM

    That is a possibility.............

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 12:55 PM

I think this is a plot by the UNP central committee to win back the support of the majority community. Kicking out Mano will earn the majority's support without a doubt!

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 12:55 PM

I cannot blame Ranil. Mano's attacks on Ranil are unfair and uncivilised . However, I feel this is a good reason to bring back the old electoral system where one electorate elects one MP as in the UK & India.

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 01:07 PM

He contested for Kandy District and failed. That's the truth. Now why all this shout about National list.

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 01:18 PM

Mr. Ranil you have taken a right decision. The way he is talking it doesn't sound like there is any sense in it beside that how could a defeated candidate can be selected to parliament again and the people have already rejected him.

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 03:27 PM

I am a strong critic of Ranil Wickremasinghe But I salute you sir for taking this opportunity to remove this enemy of the motherland from parliament.

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 04:49 PM

    We are with Mano

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 05:14 PM

    unrest will come out..

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 08:27 PM

Poor Ranil, please leave him alone!

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 12:09 PM

Mr Wickremasinghe, please note that Mano Ganeshan has not done any good to our community. In fact his behaviour and actions are for his own benefit and biz purposes.
He is not a true tamil leader. He is power hungry mean politician. We respect RW courage to shun this man.

    Sunday, 25 April 2010 12:28 AM

the tamils of kandy district rejected mano ganesan..now are you blaming ranil for that.. blame kandy district voters for your own defeat.

    Sunday, 25 April 2010 03:55 AM

Mano Ganesan's wife talks like they are the only representative of the tamil speaking people in colombo "we will never allow anymore tamil votes going to UNP...'
but the truth of the matter is they could not even get quarter of the tamils of colombo who voted for the election.please bring your supporters to the streets and let the world see that most of your so called 'supporters' are sinhalese people who voted for UPFA .

    Sunday, 25 April 2010 08:50 AM

Mano Ganesan is a devoted pilitician, but he was rejected by the voters in the Kandy District where he opted to get elected from. What is the justification for his inclusion in the UNP Natiopnal List ? Is it that he still wants to come in on behalf of the Kandy voters or does he want to represent the Colombo voters who he abandoned in favour of his brother. So there seems no justification for him to be nominated. Mr Ganeshan should now work with his brother for the Tamils throughout the country.

    Sunday, 25 April 2010 09:25 AM

You win some... you lose some...
    Get over it!!!

There should be no place for threats or intimidation in Sri Lanka going forward.

    Sunday, 25 April 2010 04:26 PM

RW , you have done the correct thing.
No political rejects to crawl back into Parliament.
Mano was rejected by the voters in a democratic election.. Yet some how, he believes that he is a "Superior" person , that without his pro-LTTE presence , that there will be no democracy in Sri Lanka.

    Monday, 26 April 2010 06:23 AM

    SOUR GRAPES!

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:42 AM

That is how you decide, it does not valid for all

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:15 AM

Is it ethical in the first place to give a defeated candidate a National List Slot??? That would be like a slap on the face of the very same people who didn't want him..Otherwise he(Mano Ganeshan)should gone to another district .Instead of going to Kandy where he has no way of winning.

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:19 AM

this is a good signal for the tamil minority parties outside northeast to get together and form an alliance to conetst in the elections. there is a joint conspiorisy between UPFA and UNP how to week the tamil parties and reduce the tamil representation in the parliement. the CWC one of the main ally of govt must also think about this since all tamil votes are grabbed by others and finally losing our democratic rights too....

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:20 AM

RW why dont you quit before being disgraced. You should be awarded the worst losers trophy.

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:24 AM

UPFA and UNP better to take off the " U " from the names since the parties are not united now and change the names as MPFA and RNP.

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:26 AM

Aha!MR.This is good example for crocodile tear.sir.you how to fan the flame.

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:28 AM

    Bad mistake done by RW.
Good opportunity for MR to get his hands strengthen.
No Muslims from Colombo to the parliament except AHMF.
How do we get united and go forward?
All political parties were scrambled to get hands strengthened.
No any parties either Sinhala/Tamil or Muslim have any say.
Five from Giruva Paththu blood to run the country.

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:28 AM

Wimal will become traitor and Ganeshan will become a Patriotic ..............

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:33 AM

ranil is a strong leader....dont blame him

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:35 AM

Your worry about on Giruwapaththu, is it?

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:12 AM

Hey ...this is not politics.... mano is trying to make chaos in the country... take him to custody under emergency law. He is pissed off because he didnt get the piece of cake.Good thing ranil left him behind. Any way we don't want mano or any other hench men of his in the parlimet. They Are just like JVP guys..They only knows to oppose. All of them are LTTE supporters. Ranil don't you worry.. we are with you....

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:50 AM

what on earth has the LTTE got to do with this, why bring a dead horse into the equation this only proves that the now mightless LTTE has left an everlasting impression. a j.

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:52 AM

good job by ranil. UNP does not need LTTE voters !!

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 10:53 AM

Ultimately Ranil also realized That there Will be no Political future going with this hardcore Pro LTTE Tamil nationalists.

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 11:18 AM

With SLFP no future for mano.

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 11:21 AM

That shows the size of your brain, Sorry

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 11:22 AM

    I agree with you

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 11:36 AM

As long as people think as Sihala(Buddhist/Christian/Catholic), Tamil(Hindu/Christian/Catholic) and Muslim/Malay this country will never come out of the mess it got into in 1956. Let us all think only as Sri Lankans and let us have the most capable men and women going to Parliament.

    Saturday, 24 April 2010 11:42 AM

    strong in what??
