The Chief Incumbent of the Batticaloa Mangalarama Rajamaha Viharaya Ampitiye Sumanarathne Thero has begun a fast unto death opposite the Viharaya. The Thero has cited two reasons for his fast: requesting that the land problems within the area pertaining to Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims be solved and that the President should intervene to stop acts of revenge instituted by local government officials against the poor of all communities forthwith. Well done Chief. You are a good example to the people. Your heart is in the right place. Unfortunately the powers that be, are only interested in themselves.

    Good reason

I cannot believe a buddhist monk fasting for Tamils. If this news is true then it is same as the sun rising from the West.

I am happy that Sri-Lanka still has some religious leaders, who think and act in line of true religious spirits. We are with you!.

It shows there are still true Buddhists in our country who go above all communal politics to uphold justice and fair play.

This is the need of the hour; all citizens to speak freely against racism. The SL government is hell bent on marginalising the minorities while trying to hoodwink the international community. Our country bled for 30 years due to the short-sighted actions of the politicians. Please do not let it get dragged down to another abyss.

Arent we self sufficient as per the first citizen of Sri lanka? I see so many skeletal figures in these pictures. Especially suffering women and children. My heart breaks to see them. It seems the monk is on a genuine effort to seek some relief for these poor people. Hope his requests be humanely considered for the good of all.

This is the final result for the people who backed Mahinda earlier.

It is an excellent initiative at the right time. This religious leader very clearly understood need and security of the all communities in the Sri Lanka.

    Shams Tuesday, 14 February 2012 05:11 PM

Good move good for all the three communities

Dhamma or Dharma or Dharmam is still alive in a corner of our Dharma Dhveepa!
