A group of British Conservative MPs including Liam Fox who was the architect of the bi-partisan agreement with the then PA government and the UNP, is expected to visit Jaffna to monitor the current situation in the peninsula especially on the alleged military presence, Presidential Advisor Arun Tambimuttu said yesterday.

Mr. Tambimuttu said the MPs had responded positively to an invitation they extended during a meeting held with them in London recently. Mr. Tambimuttu said he and UPFA national List MP Dr. Rajeewa Wijesinghe were among those who met them.

He said the ten MPs - David Amess, Guto Bebb, Nick de Bois, Alun Cairns, Alan Duncan, Liam Fox, Sheryll Murray, Richard Ottaway, Andrew Turner and James Wharton - were concerned about reports of heavy military presence in the North. (Yohan Perera)

They are many in uk no need from sri lanka, pls inform your pimps.

    Naman Wednesday, 30 May 2012 07:05 AM

I agree with you. The government will try to show that armed forces will be present sparsely. Most of them will wear normal civilian clothes. Roads will be tidied up. Selected few Tamils( who would have been coached by Govt. mentors on what say) will be showed to the British MPs.
These British MPs will be costing the Sri Lankan government a lot of ££££s/rupees

    Kondeybendapucheena Wednesday, 30 May 2012 07:09 AM

Why only Jaffna go elsewhere and see how Tamils leaving peacefully in the rest of the country too,,,,,

    Nathan Wednesday, 30 May 2012 07:24 AM

    Operation "Gill mart" already planed

    Silva Wednesday, 30 May 2012 08:25 AM

Is Mr Fox offered any business deal in Jaffna?

    Nodrog Wednesday, 30 May 2012 08:56 AM

Is the governance of the West so pristine and guiltless they can afford to check others?

    subbiah Wednesday, 30 May 2012 08:56 AM

You people created a mess when you ruled this country. Now you want to make it worse?

    Baza Wednesday, 30 May 2012 09:17 AM

The goverment pims can also arrange some Russian girls for Fox to have some fun

    Naman Wednesday, 30 May 2012 09:27 AM

Liam Fox had lost his ministerial post
He just wanted to have free holidays in Sri Lanka at the expense of our government. Lord Naseby of the conservative party is another one who gets benefits from SL government

james banda Wednesday, 30 May 2012 10:16 AM

Hello guys, your Govt invited them.

    /Ranil Wednesday, 30 May 2012 06:55 AM

What double role you are talking about. Dont talk nonsense. Ther is no outside pressure at all. Outsiders cannot put pressure and Sri Lanka is for Sri Lankans and not for British/US to rule

    Anu Wednesday, 30 May 2012 10:39 AM

    He comes to MONITOR. Good

Imran Hussein Wednesday, 30 May 2012 11:45 AM

    I rest my case.

    truth Wednesday, 30 May 2012 11:55 AM

Now where is the "Sovereignty issue" Who is this Thambimuttu, another thug?

    Tilak Wednesday, 30 May 2012 12:24 PM

Are their relations in Jaffna. Why they are not coming or visiting down south.

    wimala Thursday, 31 May 2012 01:02 AM

To everyone who's commented above. why be so deffensive. The article clearly says the government invited them.

    Rajarajacholan Thursday, 31 May 2012 02:22 AM

No worries we’ll get a separate British high commission soon in Jaffna. Everyone knows that, there are 2 countries under one directorship. Soon we’ll have two separate nations thriving for their own development rather than unlawfully occupying neighboring country

    Dinasaur Thursday, 31 May 2012 02:46 AM

    Why should he leave..

he has the right to live in his own land with his own tamil people.. what he asks is his basic human rights...

    Sam Thursday, 31 May 2012 08:50 AM

Britain was the colonial power who unified north / east with the south and formulated the present SL. As a world power, they along with the current super power US are obliged to determine that human rights of Tamils are respected!

    Kumaran Thursday, 31 May 2012 12:03 PM

Well said. Brovo mate, good one.

    Silva Wednesday, 30 May 2012 05:47 AM

The Government should stop playing with dirty politics & should work seriously for the unity of sri lanka, If not there will be another fighting group & by that time it will be tooooooo late

    Bagalawathee Wednesday, 30 May 2012 03:36 AM

Mr Liam Fox. I suggest that you visit some of the poor Sinhala slums in Colombo too, and see for yourself who is having a better life.

    Dias Wednesday, 30 May 2012 04:13 AM

I think sri lanka also should send a team to monitor the current situation in UK ,IRAQ.AFGANISTAN,PALISTAN,LIBIYA,and make report and send to the united nation,

Some one Wednesday, 30 May 2012 04:35 AM

British took 133 year to remove or demilitarize Sri Lanka from 1815.

    nihu Wednesday, 30 May 2012 04:53 AM

DID THEY THINK OF VISIT WHEN "LTTE" HAD HAVY PRESENT IN JAFFNA FOR 30 YEARS.???

Imran Hussein Wednesday, 30 May 2012 05:10 AM

Its time for MR to implement recomended policies rather than playing double roles. We can see the outside pressure. Time to stop playing Dr Jakyll & Mr Hide.
    Regime must speak one language.

    Labby Wednesday, 30 May 2012 05:12 AM

Simple; keep the forces indoors during the visit. One is reminded of children dressed in crisp white school uniforms and made to smile during Ban Ki Moon's visit to Menik Farm.

    Countryman Wednesday, 30 May 2012 05:23 AM

Very good move and they will see the free movements of people and no harm is done to them. If the Tamil society is on their own no matter whether the presence of Forces and has not influenced their activities. More over we see they engage with their labour to all present installation of infrastructure which is meant for all communities living in the North.

    kaputakukula Wednesday, 30 May 2012 05:20 AM

A well choreographed tour plan is already prepared I suppose.

    BlindSide Wednesday, 30 May 2012 05:34 AM

It is time the International community send a team to look into corruption in Sri Lanka.

buffaloa citizen Wednesday, 30 May 2012 03:37 AM

Not only presence of Army but harrassment by State entities in civil on the tamil population also needs to be checked.

    Srilankan Wednesday, 30 May 2012 05:58 AM

Dr Fox was invited by Sri Lanka, he has plenty of free time in his hand as he resigned from ministrial post last year. I think this is a sight seeing tour with the government guide!

    Nodrog Wednesday, 30 May 2012 05:59 AM

Buffaloa I've been following your posts and you don't have one nice word about this country. If you're so unhappy here why don't you leave, I'm sure you'll be able to find a boat to Australia, Canada or some other place where you can apply for refugee status.

    Nodrog Wednesday, 30 May 2012 06:02 AM

Are they here on a fault-finding mission? Why can't we have countries coming here to help us after the 30yr terrorists war? Most everyone seems keen to push us backwards and not help us progress.

    Amila.G Wednesday, 30 May 2012 06:35 AM

Bad governance, Leaves room for the west to interfere.

    B-GULLA Wednesday, 30 May 2012 06:47 AM

no no..they are so afraid of terrorism...

    PIAS Wednesday, 30 May 2012 06:49 AM

    Good suggestion Dias..

    ase Wednesday, 30 May 2012 06:54 AM

Do you think State entities harass only Tamils? You are wrong!! They harass Sinhala people as well.

The truth is most of the difficulties faced by Tamils are common to Sinhala & Muslim people too. But you guys think along the racist lines either don't see it or prefer to ignore it just to continue with your Eelam idealogy. Don't be so narrow minded.

    Tim Wednesday, 30 May 2012 06:53 AM

Why should British check on you lot. Tamil population is all over Sri Lanka. The tamil terrorists who are in hiding have to be wiped out. Liam Fox has good knowledge of what goes in Sri Lanka and the development work and he is surprised why the tamil diaspora is still trying to create chaos in the country. His advice is to join in the development of the country. The forces should be around to give protection to sinhalese, muslims and burghers who have now started life in Jaffna.
