The international network of the LTTE likely suffered a serious blow by the arrest of Selvarajah Patmanathan (aka KP), the LTTE’s principle financier and arms supplier last year, the US State Department said.

In the Department of State’s Country Reports on Terrorism 2009 which was presented to the US Congress yesterday, the US noted that the network continued to collect contributions from the Tamil diaspora in North America, Europe, and Australia, where there were reports that some of these contributions were coerced by locally-based LTTE sympathizers.

The LTTE also used Tamil charitable organizations as fronts for fundraising, the US State Department said in the report.

The Sri Lankan government effectively dismantled much of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), after cornering remaining LTTE fighters and several hundred thousand civilians in the northeast of the island.

Though the government declared victory on May 18, in completing this military campaign, both sides suffered heavy losses, the report further added. (Daily Mirror online)

    Geronimo Saturday, 07 August 2010 01:38 AM

Awe, come off it U.S. KP is the government's pet poodle these days and is leading a life of luxury while a war hero is held behind bars. KP is also taking MR for a grand ride!

    Truth hurts.

    Indika Friday, 06 August 2010 06:40 AM

Let the Government do their job.

    RajasH Friday, 06 August 2010 06:09 AM

On one hand the GOSL extend emergency on the other hand they put out news like these. we gullible Sri Lankans buy both.

Why should US arrest KP ? So that Obama can have tea and cake with him at the White house ?

Senior Citizen Friday, 06 August 2010 05:05 AM

Yes Fonseka is a terrorist & KP a patriot.

    mohandev Friday, 06 August 2010 04:47 AM

The goats in SL do not understand the simple legal procedures where any criminal guilty of worst crimes upon arrest can become state witness & spill all the beans to solve the crime & claim amnesty. Natural Colombian dollar boys are duds to even comprehend this reality. Maybe the jonny walkers are running in their blood streams.

    mohandev Friday, 06 August 2010 04:44 AM

The point is US didn't arrest KP in a foreign country & bring him back to SL. Only our brilliant secret service agents did under the direction of our master military strategist GR nobody else will get the credit for it. But the fact remains US govt is impotent to arrest any of the tiger big wigs currently running various tiger racketeers. Billion dollar question is why they are protected ? is it because tiger blood money is oiling the ailing US economy & their crest fallen banking system ????

Who says arrested? He was invited.

    nikita Friday, 06 August 2010 04:33 AM

welcomed with red carpet.. not arrested

    Bala Friday, 06 August 2010 03:56 AM

Those against the govt only are terrorists - now he is a dear and trusted patriot & friend.

    Crasher Friday, 06 August 2010 03:53 AM

Even a 2 year old child is not going to believe this story so called State’s Country Reports on Terrorism.

Bluff Bluff Friday, 06 August 2010 03:38 AM

My dear friends of the US State Department, You all are still playing the old tune. Don't you know that tune has now been re-tuned, and KP now is no longer a terrorist but a national hero here. Ask our Keheliya if you don't know about it!

    Girigoris Friday, 06 August 2010 03:30 AM

Oh that is interesting. The US is wrong this time. KP is a friend of the Sri Lanka. He is not a terrorist. He is living a luxurious life at the curtsy of the Sri Lanka tax payers money. WW should start a fast in front of the US embassy in Sri Lanka.

Dicky Athugala Friday, 06 August 2010 03:30 AM

Who's KP and when and where was he arrested? Even the The Minister of Rehabilitation & Prison Reforms DEW Gunasekera has denied such a person's name in prison. I'm sure that CIA would have got their wires twisted just like their leaders.

    sltk2004 Friday, 06 August 2010 03:25 AM

US is lying. KP is an innocent person. He is a friend of Sri Lanka. US is leading an international conspiracy against Sri Lanka by saying KP is an LTTE guy and arms supplier.
