The Army has recorded evidence from 31 individuals regarding the case of General Sarath Fonseka (SF) who is presently in military custody, Major General Prasad Samarasinghe told Daily Mirror online. He added that the summary report was currently being prepared and that it will be presented to the Army Commander soon.

It was earlier reported that the former UNP MP Johnston Fernando and former MP Wijedasa Rajapaksa had also given evidence in a pre-inquiry trial against General Fonseka who was arrested by the Military Police while he was having a meeting with the politicians of the opposition parties on 8th of  February.

Further the government recently declared that the General will also be tried under the civil penal code for his involvement in the with Hicorp dealings.

don't be an idiot ranjana. if the government was not ready with the charge sheet why was sf arrested at all? what will you feel if you were arrested without charges and detained till the cops took their time trying to find evidence against you? i am sure you will feel very aggrieved.

What they are trying to prove by arresting him and now collecting evidance. The basic of the law is before arrest sonmeone they should have the evidance.

    Wednesday, 03 March 2010 03:57 PM

hope the report will be accurate and not over written anything.

    Wednesday, 03 March 2010 04:08 PM

Look every where. SF. IS this the government top priority?

    Wednesday, 03 March 2010 04:19 PM

they should have got the evidence before they arrested him.

    Thursday, 04 March 2010 10:46 AM

They think that all the people in Sri Lanka are idiots so that the cheating can continue. As they are unable to frame proper charges they are waiting for the opportune time to release SF, most probably after the General elections.

    Wednesday, 03 March 2010 04:34 PM

Its not like a school report Ranjana. Do you know how long it takes even in the US to file charges and submit reports?

    Wednesday, 03 March 2010 06:56 PM

In the civilised world, a crime is first investigated, evidence collected, and then, the suspect arrested. Here, the procedure is to first arrest 'the suspect' and then find evidence to charge him with.

    Wednesday, 03 March 2010 06:57 PM

They will try everything to 'frame' General Sarath Fonseka - the hero of Sri Lanka. It may be that they have not found anything worthwhile, to 'charge' him with, as yet.

    Wednesday, 03 March 2010 07:18 PM

Will it be a true report ?

    Wednesday, 03 March 2010 08:12 PM

Yes, it will take a long time, because it is all 'cooked-up' !

    Wednesday, 03 March 2010 08:47 PM

People in Sri Lanka have understood now that if the foremost war hero and opposition party presidential candidate can be dragged-off and tried in a military court, no one is safe. This is why the Buddhist clergy, among others, has come-out to demand Fonseka’s release, or at least a fair trial, in a civilian court.

    The world is 'laughing'!

Last year's "world's best," is now the "world's most disgraceful"!

    Wednesday, 03 March 2010 11:16 PM

Guys, without making silly comments, read the political columns of the 'Sunday Times,' for both this and last Sunday. This will show you what exactly happened to the SF campaign. I believe that the 'Sunday Times' and 'Daily Mirror' are the most balanced news media.

    Wednesday, 03 March 2010 11:44 PM

But, they got the 'kalaveddha' down from the USA in double-quick time, to frame the General.

    Thursday, 04 March 2010 12:28 AM

You are fooling whom? Political revenge!

    Thursday, 04 March 2010 07:09 AM

Mr.Samarasinghe, this arrow turn your side not ill be taken long time..

    Thursday, 04 March 2010 07:43 AM
