A poacher was killed when Wildlife Conservation Officers opened fire during a raid in the Maduruoya National Park early morning today.  The 27 year-old victim was a resident of Henanigala area.

A team of Wildlife Officers patrolling the National Park past midnight had attempted to arrest a group of about eight poachers in the Henanigala section of the National Park.

The officials said they opened fire in self defence when the poachers shot them and one of the poachers was killed during the confrontation while others fled the scene. Dehiattakandiya police are conducting inquiries. (K.G.Karunaratne and Prasanna Padmasiri)

Now it seems they have killd a weddha. Weddha has rights to do fishing and hunting in that area. Officiers lying in this case and popular shooting story will not work here.

It is justified ,that this poacher was shot and killed, if they opened fire on the officers. Did the capture any of the firearms used by the poachers?
