A couple had been arrested at Pelenwatta in Piliyandala by the Colombo Crimes Division Officers with about 8,000 packets of heroin, the Police said.
“The stock has a street value of nearly Rs. 8 million,” an officer said.
The Police said Rs. 28,500 in cash, two mobile phones, five ATM cards and a car were also taken into the custody with the 23-year-old man and his 21-year-old wife.
The arrest was made yesterday on the instructions of the Western Province Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon.
The Police said the CCD was conducting investigations to ascertain how much heroin was concealed in those packets.
The arrested couple would be produced in the Kesbewa Magistrate Court, they said.

Only an idiot would still engage in drug business. I remember LTTE leader who refused to accept the defeat.

As soon as the case goes to courts, lawyers are waiting to request the judges to release them, taking millions and the law-breakers continue with the same game. If we take all the murderers and drug lords were once or many times released legally.
