Parliament went into an uproar this morning when the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) stormed into the Speaker’s Chair against the latter’s decision to inform the Commission of Elections that MP Ranjan Ramanayake has ceased to be an MP.
The uproar began when the Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa objected to the decision.
“You did not allow us to move the Leave Motion of MP Ramanyake in March this year. Also, you did not allow us to move it on Tuesday when we moved it saying you will look into legal provisions before informing the Chairman of the Elections Commission. However you have secretly made your decision,” Premadasa said.
However, the Speaker said that he decided after consulting the Attorney General and after studying the Constitutional Provisions.
MP Nimal Lansa said the SJB MPs does not have the right to challenge a ruling given by the Speaker.
Heated arguments popped up at this time while the Opposition MPs stormed into Speaker’s Chair.
However, Government MPs prevented SJB MPs by forming a ring around the Speaker’s Chair.(Yohan Perera)

The Sovereignty vested in the citizens is grossly violated by removing an elected MP in the pretext of contempt of Court. No action was taken to investigate the truth fullness of his statements up to now, If the present legislature has any back bone they should unanimously pass a resolution to vote and reinstate the MP and prevent such in future irrespective of party. When AG is not willing to take action to prosecute criminal action this is very sad decision dethroning the sovereignty of citizens in the absence of strict rule of law and should be reported to international jurist by the legislature. I feel stripped of my civil rights an betrayed.

I felt Sri Lanka enjoying last ditch of Democracy. When thinking about decision made in recent fast nobody if he/she truly worry about country affairs definitely would be fear of our future generation. Because imposed implementation of certain action are horrible. t I have some more to tell in realistically mean full way. But I have to think twice about it what will happen to me.
