The United National Party (UNP) is to kick off its campaign for the General Elections on Sunday June 28 from Colombo, party’s General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said yesterday.
Mr. Kariyawasam said the party would mostly use modem technology and will have zoom meetings.
In addition, usual meetings will be posted on social media. These meetings are expected to begin from July 4, he said..
All meetings will be held maintaining health guidelines, according to Mr. Kariyawasam.
Party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is expected to participate in religious observances as well as places of worship belonging to all religions.
He had already met members of the Buddhist clergy such as Ven. Bellanwila Dhammaratana Thera, Ven. Ittapane Dhammalankara Thera and Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith. (Yohan Perera)

UNP has a support base of a few millions and cannot be defeated in a hurry.These idiots who are swollen headed and do not have any idea of the SILENT majority of UNPers,think that ALL UNPers are for Sajith .How dare they say that?Have they conducted a proper survey among all UNPers?If not for Ranil and the UNP all these ungrateful pundits, including their so called great leader Sajith would have been unknown quantities.Can all these politicos of the SJB who think that they are very popular and great,hold a candle to Lalith and Gamini and oust the UNP, a grand old party of gentlemen,which is more a culture than a mere political party,which is ingrained in the Sri Lankan psyche?When the UNP wins,these are the very same people who praise Ranil sky high and say he is one of the best statesmen of Asia.When an election is lost,mostly due to their lethargy,they attack Ranil,in order to cover up their inefficiency and lethargy.Ingrates!

It is sad that RW and minority UNPers could not understand that they are on downhill and supporting MR to bring his family to power....I believe the mamojority of real UNPers and who want freedom and real development of the country without giving the power to a greedy family with SJ....Any boring internet Zoom meeting with loosers will harm our great Elephant symbol...Will see the people mandate on August 5th.....
