Two Iranian inmates detained at the Colombo Remand Prison were killed and eight others were hospitalized after they consumed alcohol-based sanitizer.
Prisons Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said the injured Iranians were admitted to the Prisons Hospital.
He said the Iranian Embassy in Colombo had provided sanitizers to the inmates at the prison.
The inmates detained on charges of heroin trafficking had consumed the sanitizer on Wednesday, the spokesman said.
He said the Iranian Embassy had been informed in this regard and the injured inmates were not in critical condition.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
